Varsity Volleyball

The varsity volleyball team had a fantastic homecoming week. On September 19, the team won it’s game against Milwaukee Reagan.

The match lasted five games, with the girls pulling out a 15-8 win in the final game. Mahek Grewal did a great job setting up kills for the team’s hitters. A big thanks goes out to the student section for coming out to support the team.

Boys Varsity Soccer

The boys soccer team played two games last week. First up was conference rival and State ranked Lake Country Lutheran. BA scored first from a free kick by Carlos Castro-Lopez, after forward Benny Keppler earned a foul just outside the box. Castro-Lopez struck the ball into the left upper-corner. After giving up two quick goals, BA kept the pressure on and created numerous chances when Keppler found the back of the net on an assist from midfielder Kamron Kaiser. The game ended 2-2.

The second game was against Dominican on homecoming night. In a very tight and competitive battle, the boys fought to a 1-1 draw. In the first half, Castro-Lopez saw the keeper off his line and drilled a 40-yard shot over his head and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Dominican scored in the second half after Jacob Schneck's save deflected off the post and for an easy tap in.

The boys played well in both games and now turn to Senior Night tonight. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm against Heritage Christian at the BA Fields of Freedom.

Girls Varsity Tennis

The BA girls varsity tennis team has won its last two dual matches. The team defeated Menomonee Falls five matches to two. Winners at singles were Ashna Dagam at #1 singles, Claire Tian at #3 singles, and Anika Taneja at #4 singles. The #1 doubles team of Lexi Kass/Laurette Blanchard and #2 doubles team of Simran Bhatia/Riya Singh won their matches as well.

This past Tuesday was the first home match on the brand new BA courts. The girls were fired up and played very well, beating Shorewood six matches to one. Senior Simran Bhatia is the fourth BA girls tennis player to reach 50 career wins! Thanks to all the students and faculty who came out to support the team!

JV linebackers Beau Libbey and Connor Nicholson pressured the quarterback and recorded many tackles. The JV football team improved its record to 3-0.

On Friday, September 30, BA travels to Saint Francis High School for a conference game at 7 pm.

The team started a busy homecoming week hosting Milwaukee Reagan. The girls fell short, losing the match two games to one. Aureilia Rushing led the way, serving up five aces and six kills. Kai Peterson did a great job setting with ten assists, while Ella Lombardi played strong defensively. Despite the loss, the girls fought hard.

The team finished the week in a tournament at Wauwatosa West. The team lost in close matches to Tosa West, Cudahy, and Greenfield, but rebounded to defeat South Milwaukee. The decision making on the court was unparalleled. The Blue Knights had a solid defensive performance by Ella Lombardi with 29 digs. Ella Thompson also applied pressure defensively with two crucial blocks. Aureilia Rushing, again, led the offense with nine aces and 19 kills. Kai Peterson controlled the ball with 18 assists for the tournament. The ladies had a great day on the court before getting ready for the big homecoming dance Saturday evening.

Individually, Libbey finished third and Decker finished seventh among 43 competitors.

In the girls Level 5/6 race, Maeve Parkins debuted with an excellent eighth place finish among 41 competitors. In the boys Level 5/6 race, Alex Wilhelm and Kuzey Cetingul finished 12th and 16th respectively out of 60 runners. In the Boys Level 7/8 race, Samuel Miller earned fourth place, while Xavier Loomis and Paul He placed 21st and 22nd in a field of 64 runners.

Coach Reiner maps out the course for the BA runners.

The MS cross country team competed at Pilgrim Park Middle School on September 22, where the Brookfield Academy crew went up against stiff competition from large D1 feeder schools. The BA runners were up to the task and produced many highlights. In the boys Level 8 race, Samuel Miller had a fine showing placing 13th among 96 competitors. In the boys 5/6/7 race, the duo of Xavier Loomis and Paul He finished consecutively at 27 and 28 in a field of 189. On the girls side, Level 8 runners Ellie Decker and Stella Koenings each finished in the top third of the field by placing 7th and 19th from 87 runners.

In the girls 5/6/7 competition, Mila Libbey placed fifth and Olivia Schmidt placed 45th out of 160 total runners.

Level 8

What a busy week it was for the Level 8 volleyball team! The girls got off to a great start with a win over Heritage Christian on Thursday. Mikayla Hargarten’s consistent serving made a big impact on the match.

Friday, the team played a very competitive match against the teachers for homecoming week. Saturday, the team won a doubleheader of league games against St. Francis Cabrini and Seton North.

Later that day, the girls had four games in the St. Leonard tournament where they

went 1-3.

The team completed the weekend playing two close games against St. Leonard in the tournament and walked away with two wins. This result left a four-way tie in the pool. Unfortunately the tiebreaker did not go our way, so the team did not advance to the playoffs.

Great net play by Aroushi Bhakhri and solid defense from Luya Zhang gave the team a real boost.

-Coach Jacqueline Frohwirth

Level 7

The Level 7 volleyball team is on fire! The team won another two matches against Waukesha Catholic and Holy Angels to remain undefeated in conference at 5-0. Great serving by Grace Mila and Sophia Ruddock led the way. Setters Susie Schoyer, Claire Spaeth, and Ella Posnik are really getting good balls to the hitters, so the team is able to attack more.

Ella Posnik with a great set

It’s been incredible to watch the growth that has happened in a very short amount of time.

JR Knights Football

Level 7/8

The Level 7/8 JR Knights came roaring back this week in a triumphant 26-12 victory over University School of Milwaukee (USM) in the first home game of the season. BA’s offense and defense both contributed to the win. Nicholas Roth and Jack Buckley anchored the line, allowing the JR Knights to score four touchdowns in the game. Noah Thompson had several impact plays, including a fumble recovery and an interception in the first half. The JR Knights were up 14-12 at the half after sealing the lead with an extra point kick.

The JR Knights went on to dominate the second half, leaving USM scoreless. BA started the half with an unexpected jet sweep pass with Drake Bolan, Ethan Potthast and Thompson. After that, the Knights were unstoppable. The team added rushing touchdowns by Potthast and Samarth Singh. With a big win under their belts against crosstown rivals, the boys are looking forward to finishing the season strong.

Level 5/6

What a homecoming weekend it was! The Level 5/6 JR Knights performed strongly against Saint Francis on Saturday, September 24. Offense and defense ruled the field as the Knights dominated in one of the best games of the season. The defense, led by Devan Pillai, Charlie York, and Tate Nowacki, penetrated the line and held St. Francis to zero points! The defense also recorded six sacks and forced three fumbles.

The offense was firing on all cylinders! Tim Cobb played a perfect game at the center position. Zaiden Johnson, Decker Priebe, Kirtan Pansheriya and Charlie York all put points on the board as the team cruised to a 35-0 victory. This was an all-around solid performance from everyone on the team! Great job JR Knights, and keep up the good work!
