Cross Country

The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Blackshirt Challenge, hosted by Waukesha South at Minooka Park on Saturday, September 3.

The sun was out early, making for a hot, sticky morning on a hilly course.

On the girls side, this week’s Runner of the Week is Rose Erlinder, who finished 9th overall with a time of 21:04. Most Improved Runners this week are Claire Tracy (22:10, 15th overall) and Avery Denman (27:26).

Sophomore Rose Erlinder, junior Luci Jensen, and junior Claire Tracy with their medals after the Blackshirt Invitational.

Jillian Jones is our Rookie of the Week. Competing in her first high school cross country meet, Jillian ran a robust and evenly-paced race and is establishing herself as a true distance runner. As a team, the girls finished 5th out of 12. They are off to a great start this season, and we are excited to see what is in store.

On the boys side, this week’s Runner of the Week is Kamron Kaiser. In his first race of the season, Kamron placed 21st overall with a time of 18:47. Shri Kannan is our Most Improved Runner this week. Shri finished over two minutes quicker than last week, on a more challenging course, with a time of 23:24.

Ben Reiner is our Rookie of the Week. In his first high school meet, Ben ran a very strong 21:58. Danny Reiner, Will Morgan, Danny Weiner, and Joshua Schwartz also all improved their times from last week.

As a team, the boys varsity team finished 6th, and the JV team finished 8th.

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday, September 8, at the Arrowhead Invitational.

Girls Varsity Tennis

The Blue Knights girls varsity tennis team went 1-2 over the weekend. The team defeated The Prairie School five matches to two, before narrowly losing to Division 1 Westosha Central four matches to three. In the third and final dual of the day, BA lost to #4 ranked New Berlin Eisenhower five matches to two. The girls were just three points away from pulling off the upset.

I look forward to the rematch with New Berlin Eisenhower on September 22. This dual will be the first varsity match to be played on the new BA tennis courts!

The doubles duo of junior Madison York and freshman Kate Allen (pictured below) went a perfect 3-0 over the weekend.

Last night, the BA varsity tennis team put up a great fight against Division 1 Sussex Hamilton. The Blue Knights lost four matches to three. BA was able to sweep the doubles matches against the Chargers and came very close to winning a singles match.

Seniors Lexi Kass and Laurette Blanchard won 6-0, 6-2 at #1 doubles. Seniors Simran Bhatia and Riya Singh won 6-4, 6-2 at #2 doubles while the #3 doubles team of juniors Madison York and Patricia Weiss won 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Ashna Dagam played the best match of her season yesterday, narrowly losing to a very good player. Ashna battled to earn a set point in the second set.

The #9 ranked Blue Knights girls tennis team takes on #2 ranked Catholic Memorial today at 4:30pm at Heyer Park as part of the Kohler Invitational that continues on Saturday.

Volleyball

It has been a quiet week for the volleyball teams. After a huge win against University School of Milwaukee, the team headed into Labor Day weekend having several practices.

Tomorrow, the team has a home game against Messmer. JV is scheduled to start at 5:45 pm, while varsity is set for a 7 pm first serve.

Thursday night will also be youth night! Levels 5-8 BA volleyball players will enjoy pizza, receive a small gift, and participate in a serving contest during the varsity match for some prizes.

The senior girls held a practice to prepare the senior boys for their homecoming powderpuff volleyball game against the junior boys.

Boys Varsity Soccer

The boys varsity soccer team played two games last week. On Wednesday, BA had its first conference game of the season, hosting Living Word Lutheran. After conceding a goal, the Blue Knights tied the game with a goal on a 30-yard blast by Ethan Grande with 20 minutes left in the game. Although dominating the entire second half and producing many chances to score, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The boys had a quick turnaround, playing at Watertown Luther Prep the next day. BA took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by senior midfielder Xabier Bisabarros-Hudoc and senior Thomas Minix. Junior midfielder Kamron Kaiser had the assists on both goals. Luther Prep managed to sneak in a goal just before halftime, cutting the Brookfield Academy lead to 2-1.

While playing a physical second half, the score remained the same. The Blue Knights fought through a tough match to earn the win in their second game in a row. It was a complete team effort as everyone contributed to the win.

BA now plays four opponents on the road, before returning to the BA Fields of Freedom on September 21 to take on Lake Country Lutheran.

Level 5/6 Boys Soccer

The Level 5/6 boys soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 tie on the road against a physical St. Augustine Prep team on Wednesday, August 31.

Adham Qureshi scored the lone goal for the Blue Knights who out-possessed their opponents for most of the game. Co-captains William Klein and Andi Kadriu controlled the flow of the game through the middle while Caetano Raab Rabida and Sohil Bucaro helped create opportunities from their outside midfield positions.

The backline was sturdy, holding up well against the counter attacks from St. Augustine Prep under the direction of central defender Harrison Urech. Goalkeeper Nate Robinson was stout between the posts in his first game.

JR Knights Football

Although the JR Knights did not have a game this past weekend, the team members were in the spotlight during the BA varsity football game Friday night. As part of JR Knights night, the players were introduced at halftime.

Brayden Cleppe, Level 8, runs through the tunnel.

MS Cross Country

The MS Cross country team has not had a competition yet, but they have been working hard to get in the best condition possible. The team runs a timed mile each week to track progress. Current members of this year's 7:00 mile club are Samuel Miller, Mila Libbey, Ellie Decker, Elena Petrova, Stella Koenings, Xavier Loomis, Arnold Kellogg, and Paul He.

Others are not far off the 7:00 time, so we will hopefully be adding more names to the list soon. The MS CC team will participate in nine meets this season including the BA home meet on September 16.
