2019-20 School Theme: Open a Book Begin a Journey
I will forever be grateful for the education that I have received from Brookfield Academy over the past 14 years. The teachers taught me invaluable lessons on how to study well, take notes, and be confident in public speaking and I have made so many memories here with friends that I have known for almost my entire life. The environment at BA is really special because the teachers are always excited to help their students on an academic level and are invested in all of their students’ personal successes.
~Emma Hindle, Class of 2020

I am very happy that I had the privilege of spending the last 14 years of my life at Brookfield Academy. This is a very special place where I have learned essential lessons that I’ll need for the rest of my life. Also, the people I have met here have forever changed my life. The teachers inspire me to do my best and somehow put up with me this long. The friends I have made, I now consider family. I couldn’t imagine a better place to start your life.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
REMOTE LEARNING IN ACTION
Our learning and traditions continue!
PRIMARY SCHOOL
BA Signs of Gratitude: Faculty and staff members who deliver weekly learning packets to our Primary School and Lower School students are enjoying the homemade signs!
LOWER SCHOOL
Our Lower School students continue their remote studies with diligence and excellence!
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Annual Events go Virtual: Middle School teachers welcomed Level 8 student Walker Priebe as the "Head of Middle School" for a day.
Walker asked Middle School teachers to perform a song and our teachers met the challenge like "All-Stars!" Check it out!
The Middle School teacher vs. student basketball game did not happen as planned, but teachers encouraged students in a video message (below) to participate in a Five-Star Challenge. Winners will be announced in the coming weeks!
UPPER SCHOOL

Caps and College Bound:  Our incredible seniors safely delivered " Class of 2031" caps to students at their homes last week. Senior "lifers" wore their college colors and visited every Level 1 student. The tradition continues!
BA LEARNING CONTINUES
Our teachers are connecting with students in diverse and creative ways!
Snacks and Zoom: Students connect during remote learning time to have a snack with their classmates.
Math and Museums: What better way to learn fractions than to visit a "Fraction Museum?" Level 2 students Isabella-Eva Sampang (upper image) and Alana Robinson (lower image) created museums and learned fractions too!
Upper School Remote Learning: A glimpse of at-home learning for our Upper School students includes private and shared work spaces.
Art and Remote Learning: Upper School art students were tasked with more creative art challenges to reflect their new learning environments. This "messy bedroom" assignment includes digital paintings created by Madison Hesse (upper image) and Aya Khraisat (lower image).
English Challenge Accepted: A playful prompt by Mrs. Koenings in last week's Five Star Message turned into a sentence diagram project! Mrs. Eggert, Lower School English Department Chair, couldn't resist the prompt and tackled the challenge.
ADVANCEMENT & VOLUNTEER NEWS
THANK YOU:
Spring into Action Virtual Auction

Wow! Thank you to all who participated in Brookfield Academy’s first Virtual Auction! It was truly a fun day of online bidding from the safety of your homes. Due to the generosity of the BA community, over $60,000 was raised Saturday night. That money will be combined with sponsorships and underwriting to support the students who have been doing extraordinary work during these challenging times.

We also want to thank all who stayed for our first-ever Facebook Live event on Saturday night! During that live event, we drew the winners of the various contests, as well as the Five Star Raffle. Congratulations to Bernice Boucher, who won both the $5000 and $1500 cash prizes, and Chris Kappl, who won the $500 cash prize. We also want to announce the three winners of the social media contests: Pam Gaulke ‘74 McDonald won BA swag for #baspringintoaction social media sharing, Brooke Erlinder won Brewer tickets for participation in the online auction, and Natasha Tyson won a parking spot for 2020-21.

Hats off to Holly Nygro and Natasha Tyson for their patience and hard work to transform the Dinner Auction into a Virtual Auction. Thanks also to Krissy Kappl for her role in securing event sponsors. Twenty-seven sponsors and underwriters provided financial support for this year’s event.

Lastly, Five Star kudos to the BA community for your role in making this a hugely successful event. Our community continues to step up during challenging times and the enthusiastic response to the Virtual Auction is just another example of this dedication.

Please remember: If you are a winner of online auction items, you may stop at Founders Hall to pick up your winnings starting today, Wednesday, May 6. Email the Advancement Office with the date and time you will be coming, and we will meet you outside the building with your item(s) -- our version of curbside service!

We also look forward to having you celebrate with us at the Fall 2020 Grand Opening event in Patriots Hall!
