2022-23 School Theme: 60 Years - A Tradition of Excellence | |
On September 10, 1962, the bell rang for the very first time, calling together 33 students for their inaugural assembly at the farmhouse on top of the hill, known today as Founders Hall. The dream of ABE (Academy of Basic Education) became a reality as Head Bill Smeeth began the assembly by raising the flag, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and giving an inspiring message before closing with a school prayer. This Friday, September 9, ABE (now known as Brookfield Academy) will again gather its entire student body of more than 880 students at Founders Hall to honor our 60th year.
The Founders Day Assembly, held each fall at Brookfield Academy, commemorates the first assembly. In addition to all of our students, we welcome past and present Board members, parents, alumni, teachers, staff, and administrators to the celebration. We remember and recognize those who have given years of service to uphold the Mission and philosophy of the school. I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Sharon Koenings, one of my mentors and former Head of School, will be this year’s presenter. Mrs. Koenings served a variety of roles over the course of her 43 years at Brookfield Academy. Also, Mrs. Koenings will be inducted into the Honor Roll of Distinguished Service with six other staff members. Joining her this year are Mrs. Lisa Buchholtz, Mrs. Janet Kenny, Mrs. Ruth Osier, Mrs. Rose Pankow, Ms. Karen Schleicher, and Mrs. Stacey Wrenn. All are worthy recipients because of their contributions to Brookfield Academy during their outstanding careers.
Please join us on September 9, at 8:15 a.m. at Founders Hall to once again celebrate the founding of this remarkable school - 60 Years: A Tradition of Excellence!
