Brooklyn Dems Chair strongly condemns the Supreme Court upholding Arizona voting restrictions as a “dark day for our democracy.”
(Brooklyn, NY) -- Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States upheld voting restrictions in Arizona:

"Today’s SCOTUS Arizona ruling is an abhorrent assault by the GOP. It blatantly undercuts the 1965 Voting Rights Act and undermines the voting strength of minorities and people of color. It is a dark day for our democracy.

Time and again, the courts have found zero evidence of voter fraud in the Presidential Election. This continued wave of voting rights attacks is nothing more than an overt racist attempt to rob people of their ability to participate in our democracy.

We need to urgently take action at all state and federal levels to restore and expand voting protections, including passing the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

I am also in the process of introducing state legislation reforms in Albany, as well as supporting a number of reforms introduced by my colleagues. Our democracy depends on full voter participation."
We represent Democrats from every corner of this borough, all part of the largest county party in the country. We are an inclusive and diverse organization with leaders and activists from every neighborhood of Brooklyn.
