Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,
We sometimes marvel at our good fortune.
Perhaps we even have a touch of survivor’s guilt.
There is no question that times are challenging in so many ways, for so many, but you have stuck with The Blue Purl and helped keep us afloat.
If you have been here, it’s no secret at all how we're doing this. It is our committed, caring, creative, team. They do to it all either with hands on, or through their own artful inspiration.
Together. Teamwork. Cooperation. Collaboration.
Call it what you will, but it is a lesson that we all maybe knew but which has been reinforced in these crazy times: It is always easier when we are pulling together in the same direction.
And we are. Come see.
You will have a chance in the coming days because there will soon be a NJ Wool Walk, albeit with a COVID twist - since it’s in October.
We are getting ready so that you can find exactly what you want, or maybe discover something you had not even thought about. It is thoughtful of you to stick with a local yarn shop, so we are returning the favor.
As you probably know, our newsletter is like a weekly mission statement. It highlights something that matters to us that we want to discuss. What you may not have known is how much it is a product of our teamwork, too.
We work together to find the things we think will interest and inspire.
But we want to be inclusive and show the end game - that YES you can make beautiful projects, so we added Our Fabulous Community section.
This is the heart of it. The reason for having a yarn store - helping people make things! Whether it's a beginner making a hat, working in the round for the first time or finishing the Maple sweater (like Bonnie this week:) it is all so important, so central.
So yes, we can’t be physically seated around the table, or shoulder to shoulder at the counter, not yet.
But yes, we can still lift each other up, still pull in the same direction.
Together.

BROOKLYN TWEED Pop-Up Shop
|
|
We are so excited to finally announce this special limited time event with Brooklyn Tweed. Starting next week, we will be hosting a Brooklyn Tweed Pop Up! Blue Purl will have their most popular bases- Shelter (worsted), Arbor (DK), Loft (fingering) & Peerie (fingering) in their most popular colors. Newsprint, Long Johns, Postcard, and many, many more choices.
For those that have never tried Brooklyn Tweed's yarn, their breed-specific wool comes from American farms and are dyed & spun in the U.S. also. Loft and Shelter are woolen-spun, while Peerie and Arbor are worsted-spun. We encourage you to visit us for an in-person look at these beauties if you're new to Brooklyn Tweed. For those that are familiar with their yarn, we will also launch the Pop-Up online, as soon as it arrives, for immediate purchase.
While we're hosting the Pop Up shop, we're able to take additional special orders for any colors or bases within our collection.
And of course, we wouldn't leave you without plans for this special line of yarn. We have a suite of classes planned in sweaters and accessories that show off the beauty of Brooklyn Tweed. One sweater class will start in November, while the rest will kick off our Winter session in January. Stay tuned for more news, samples, etc. The Blue Purl elves had a really hard time keeping everything a secret!

Malabrigo Rasta's newest color collection, Pintada is in the shop. With names like Unicorn Bark, Blueberry Cream and Snake, you're going to want to see these skeins in person. Of course, we've put them online in case you can't make it in. And yes, we already have plans for this latest collection. All patterns are free on Ravelry, and only uses 1 skein of Rasta on a US17 needle in the round.
The Treillage Cowl by Jennifer Emslie is cozy and sophisticated. The texture would look good in solid or variegated Rasta.
The Emilia Cowl and Hat by Kristel Nieves, need 1 skein each to create this cute set. The picture shown is Unicorn Bark, it's hard to resist this color.
The Elpaba Cowl, also by Kristel Nieves, is perfect in the Snake colorway. The cowl is a four-row repeat, in the round & uses 1 skein.

One skein project of the week- the Simple Yet Effective cowl by Tin Can Knits is a free pattern on Ravelry. Using a beautiful hand dyed yarn makes the cowl so special. Wendy knitted 1 skein of Lichen & Lace Worsted in Sunburnt Lobster with a size US6 needle. You can also use Tosh Vintage or Tosh DK with some beautiful mohair for a lovely halo.

The Tincture Hat by Andrea Mowry just gives us all the feels of Fall. We love a good herringbone and this one is created with Mosaic knitting, a much simpler way to do color work. We have kits made up with Concept Silk Tweed, 1 ball each of 2 colors, available online. To pom pom or not? That is the question!

Crochet Ponchos are lovely, don't you think? The elegant Hot Cocoa Poncho by Toni Lipsey (left) is done in Tunisian Crochet with video support on getting that stitch down! The Cumulus Poncho (love the wavy cloud visual) is made here with Malabrigo Rios by design er Lena Fedotova - her Ravelry page says she's traveling the world on a wooden boat:) And the 70's inspired Cowl Neck Poncho we think would be great with Brooklyn Tweed Shelter which comes in to the shop in the next few days!!!
This last pattern is only available with UK Crochet terminology. If you didn't know that there's a difference - check out the conversion chart below from Fuzzy Bee.
