This powder room was widened during the kitchen renovation on the other side of the wall on the left. Is that a traditional black and white toile? No! Wallpaper featuring the Notorious B.I.G. is a nod to our client's work in the music biz. Scroll down below to the next section of this newsletter to read more.
"Mike Diamond of the Beastie Boys decided he wanted a Brooklyn inspired toile wallpaper that would line the walls of his Brooklyn brownstone. The vision was to pay tribute to all things Brooklyn in a way that would appear to be a traditional French Country Toile, but when you step to it the pattern reveals elements and vignettes that make up the truth about Brooklyn. Mike approached Vincent J. Ficarra and Adela Qersaqi of Revolver New York to help execute his vision artistically and Flavor Paperto produce the design as wallpaper. Brooklyn Toile captures the King’s borough from Coney Island to Hasidic Jews to the greatest rapper of all time to our own Boerum Hill. Daily life in the BK dealing with subways, pigeons, stroller moms, and b-boys makin’ the freak freak is all up in there."
*Toile (twaal) is a decorative pattern printed on fabric or wallpaper, traditionally a repeating whimsical pastoral scene such as a couple picnicking by a lake etc, typically 2 colors such as black, blue or red printed on a white background.
