Opening of School Details

Students are expected on campus on different days, depending on their activities and responsibilities:

• Sept. 1: Student leader arrival *by invitation from the Student Life Office only*
• Sept. 2: All NEW students and returning international students only arrive
• Sept. 3: All RETURNING students arrive
• Sept. 4: Classes begin

Please view the Arrival Days Schedule, complete with move-in hours. In addition, our Packing Guide notes what students will need and should bring with them to Brooks (taking into account Dormitory Fire and Decoration Regulations, our Required Device Policy and Dress Code Expectations).

Interested in Carpooling?

Day student families interested in opting into a carpooling list to be shared among other interested day student families, please sign up on the Day Student Carpooling form. While the school will help facilitate the distribution of names and towns of interested carpoolers, families will be responsible for all communication and coordination of potential carpools. Connections will be made at the end of August, ahead of the start of school.

Boarding Student Cars

Boarding students may apply to have a car on campus for a specific purpose and for a set period of time. No car will be allowed on campus for the entire school year or for a “to be determined” period of time. All who are interested in going through the application process for the fall may contact Dean of Student Life Jen Weissbach. Applications for the fall are due Aug. 24 and will be reviewed by a small committee. Another round of applications for having cars on campus during the winter will be communicated with families and students in late September.

ACADEMICS

Olivia Booth ’27 is one of twenty Brooks students participating in a summer internship this summer through the Brooks Students on the Forefront signature program. Olivia is based at Mass General Brigham collaborating with researchers on Psychiatric Neuroimaging. If you are interested in learning more about sponsoring an internship for the summer of 2027, please reach out to Dean of Teaching & Learning Joanna McDonough. 

All Community Read

A reminder that our 2026-2027 All Community Read (ACR), sponsored by the English Department, is "Call Us What We Carry" by Amanda Gorman.  Read more about the selection and ACR program. We look forward to the many ways we will engage with this book next year!

ATHLETICS

Afternoon Programs Information

Sign ups for Afternoon Programs for new students are due Aug. 1. Instructions have been emailed to students at their Brooks email address for the form to complete via OnBrooks. Information and requirements regarding the afternoon program can be found at this link Afternoon Programs 2026-2027. Details regarding fall season equipment needs can be found here. 

All afternoon programs will begin on the first day of classes, Sept. 4. There is no preseason for first level teams this year, so all students will begin at the same time on Sept. 4.

Swim test: For students NEW to Brooks 2026

Given Brooks' beautiful location on Lake Cochichewick, our crew program and other opportunities to participate in water activities on and off campus, including during Winter Term, class trips, athletic trips and more, Brooks administers a swim test for students at the start of the school year. This is to assess swimming proficiency. We will be giving the swim test to all new students.  

Students will not be allowed to participate in any boating or crew programs unless they have demonstrated swimming proficiency during the swim test. Students who are not proficient swimmers should indicate so and will not be asked to participate in the swim test. The test will be scheduled during the opening days of school as part of orientation. Students should bring a bathing suit and towel.

Arts

Ava Valianti ‘27 Performance in Portsmouth, NH

On Aug. 22, Ava Valianti ‘27 will headline at The Music Hall Lounge in Portsmouth, NH, and Director of Music Michael Bruschi and Music Teacher Jake Smith will be accompanying her. The Music Hall Lounge is a 80 seat venue across the street from the larger Music Hall. Get your tickets and enjoy a wonderful night of music and community!

Sign Up for Private Music Lessons

Please complete the 2026–2027 Private Music Lessons form if your student is interested in taking weekly instrumental and/or voice lessons through Brooks. Instruction is available on most instruments and voice; our team of instructors is happy to work with students of any level of experience. Lessons typically meet during the academic day during a free block in the student’s schedule. For more information or with any questions, please contact Director of Music Michael Bruschi.
