Student Home Sick?

Are you a day student family and plan on keeping your student home due to illness? This is a reminder that our Health and Wellness Center staff should be notified first thing in the morning each day you plan to keep your student home. Center staff must hear directly from the student’s parent/guardian. It is the student’s responsibility to notify their teachers, but the parent/guardian’s responsibility to call them out.

Are you a boarding family with a student home sick? This is a reminder to continue to update the Health and Wellness Center with the progress your student has made -- along with updated return-to-campus plans. If your plans change, or you need to extend their stay at home, please be in touch with the center so that our residential staff know when to expect them back on campus. Boarding students should also be in direct contact with their teachers and dorm parents, as well.

Student Debit Account Balances: Withdraw or Use Soon!
A note from Brooks School's Business Office:

Sixth-form parents: Students' debit account funds should be utilized (purchases in the store or snack bar) or withdrawn (at the mailroom window) on or prior to May 25. The mailroom will not be open on Commencement Weekend, May 26 or 27, and students will be unable to withdraw funds on those dates.

Third-, fourth-, and fifth-form parents: Debit account funds are only available for use or withdrawal during the academic year and must be used or withdrawn on or prior to May 31 if you wish to zero out the account. Debit account funds that are not utilized or withdrawn by May 31 will be carried over to the following school year for use. If your student is not returning, funds must be used or withdrawn on or prior to May 31. Funds cannot be transferred to another school/account.

Weekend Activities
Who's excited for some mini golf and ice cream? This weekend's fun includes a trip to Richardson's Ice Cream where students can snack, play mini golf and hit the batting cages, while on campus, there is a nacho night and mini golf tournament inside the academic building. New Literary Magazine Edition Out Now!
The latest issue of the Brooks literary magazine Still Waters is now available and features 25 original poems and stories. Congratulations to the faculty editor, English Teacher Dean Charpentier, and each of the 15 talented students who contributed to this wonderful publication.

Law Day Honor
Every year, the Lawrence Bar Association invites local students to deliver thematic speeches for Law Day. Winner of the Wilder Speaking Prize Kiara Rivera Valdez '26 and Shelley Osafo-Grant '25 (on left) traveled to the Fenton Judicial Center on Friday to compete — with remarks focused on the 2024 theme of “Voices of Democracy” — against students from Methuen High School and Lawrence High School. Brooks’ own Maddy Byrnes '25 sang the national anthem to kick off the proceedings. Rivera Valdez and Osafo-Grant each delivered great speeches and Osafo-Grant earned 2nd place, based on her content and delivery. Congratulations to all three students for representing themselves, and Brooks, so admirably!

Herlihy Pitched a No-Hitter!
Congratulations are in order for Connor Herlihy ’24. The boys 1st baseball pitcher threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Buckingham Browne & Nichols School game at Brooks on May 2. Spring Season Playoffs Are Coming

Baseball and lacrosse (girls and boys 1st): ISL playoffs begin on May 15. Opponents will be determined after the completion of regular ISL games on May 11. Teams will play at the higher seed on May 15. The playoffs will continue on May 18, again to be played at the higher seed. Championship games will be played on Sunday, May 19.

Softball: Brooks will co-host the annual Big East Softball Invitational May 18-19. Brooks will play at home on May 18 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. All games on May 19 will be played at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.

Crew: The crew season culminates with NEIRA’s on May 25 on Worcester, Mass.'s Lake Quinsigamond.

May 17: Advanced Visual Artists Reception — 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Join us as we celebrate 40 advanced artists' sustained investigations on display in the Center for the Arts and select works in the Bowers Room including refreshments before and after the Friday performance of SIX.

May 18: Brookstock — 8 to 10 p.m.
Brookstock is the grand culmination of a semester's worth of work for all our music ensemble classes held outdoors in the Class of 2020 Quad. During the first hour, you will hear performances from Advanced Chorus, Arts Exploratory Chorus, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Advanced Jazz Band and the Brooks Pops. The second hour will feature Brooks’s rock bands: Lithium (our Advanced Rock Band), JV Rock and a debut performance from 3rds Rock (our adult rock band). The event includes food, carnival games and much more. Everyone is welcome!

May 19: Private Lessons Recital — 2 p.m.
Our annual private lessons recital will take place this year on May 19 at 2 p.m. in the Robert Lehman Art Center. Several Brooks students currently enrolled in weekly private music lessons will participate and perform on instruments ranging from voice and piano to guitar and drums. This is their opportunity to show the community what they have been working on all year with their private teachers. Everyone is welcome to attend the recital, including off-campus family and friends. There will be a catered reception in the Lehman directly following the event.
