This Weekend
Friday, Nov. 4, is a special abbreviated class schedule (8-11:25 a.m.) with games being played on this day. SATs are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5. There are no classes or afternoon activities on Saturday.
Students may depart campus for a weekend leave after their last commitment on Friday and return on Sunday by 8 p.m. Students should use REACH and choose "Nov. weekend" for their request.

Next Weekend, Nov. 12-13
Nov. 12-13 will be a Community Weekend. We have an early, 8 a.m. start on Saturday to accommodate away games at Tabor Academy.

Thanksgiving Schedule & Vacation Transportation
On Nov. 19, classes will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude by 10:55 a.m. so students can make their way on vacation. Students should share their travel plans using REACH. Students can sign up for the school transportation to Logan Airport or New York City using REACH. Please review the 2022-2023 Transportation Options available for our students for vacation.

Campus Safety Training
On Tuesday, students participated in an ALICE training session with representatives from the North Andover Police Department. ALICE training provides options that can be used to stay safe in the event of an emergency or crisis situation such as a violent intruder. While it is uncomfortable and unsettling to consider these difficult situations, it is necessary to learn and practice our options should an unlikely dangerous situation ever occur.
Adults will be conducting a tabletop drill with the NAPD following Thanksgiving break. We are also planning a drill with students in the coming months.

With no classes on Saturday, there are many opportunities for fun — including a bus to Boston and various trips and on-campus activities throughout the weekend. Check out the Weekend Bulletin for the full schedule and details.

Student Survey
Brooks School is planning to survey the student body on Nov. 15 using the Challenge Success Survey through REACH. We hope to gain data that will help inform us how the student body is feeling and how we can best improve our programming on campus. The Challenge Success team is a great partner for this work as they will help us make sense of our data and provide Brooks with suggestions for programmatic changes based on student responses.

Study Hours for Day Students
At last week’s parent dinner, the question of day students and evening study hours emerged. We hope the following information, condensed from the student handbook, is helpful:
Day students on campus in the evenings are expected to follow the normal school routine and evening regulations. Third-, fourth-, and fifth-form day students with an 8 p.m. check-in do not require notes to stay on campus; however, they must be signed in on REACH at a supervised place of study by 8 p.m. and should depart campus no later than 10 p.m. Supervised places of study include the library, structured study hall, the Learning Center (via pre-arranged appointment, only) or working directly with a teacher.

The Human Impact on the Environment science class recently took a field trip to a waste-to-energy incinerator plant in Haverhill, Mass. Students learned how the plant can turn trash from the local area into electricity and how they minimize the pollution released.

December Exhibitions of Learning (EOLs)
Exhibitions of Learning (EOLs) make up the last week of classes before we depart for Winter Break. An EOL is a debate, discourse, presentation, portfolio, test, exam or other class experience that occurs in special, extended A-H blocks from Dec. 10 through Dec. 15. Every major course has an EOL.

We are happy to share the Dec. EOL Period schedule with you here, which also includes some important student reminders. Attendance is required for all students during the EOL period and elective absences or early departures will only be permitted in extremely extenuating circumstances.
- Please note that attendance is also required at the formal dinner and Lessons and Carols on the evening of Dec. 15.
- In early Dec., the deans of students will collect student travel plans for Winter Break.

Learning Center Helpful Hints
As we near Thanksgiving and Winter Break, the end of the semester is also approaching. The Learning Center is beginning to discuss time management with students, as the end of the semester can quickly become very busy while students manage final assessment preparation, winter sports schedules, holiday events and social commitments.
Organizing time allows students to have a clear picture of upcoming days and weeks. What time is available for studying, recreation and other activities? The Learning Center not only looks at the week ahead, but also the weeks leading up to the end of the semester so that students can begin to plan accordingly.
Encourage your student to look at this week and the upcoming weeks to see what time is available. Use this calendar to begin mapping out commitments, study time and free time. A student with good time management and a clear understanding of the weeks ahead will be better prepared and ready to "study smarter, not harder."

End-of-Season Notes from the Athletics Office
- The last day of fall afternoon programs is Nov. 12.

The NEPSAC tournament, for teams that qualify, begins with quarterfinals on Nov. 16. Semifinals are on Nov. 19. Finals are on Nov. 20. (The tournament draw, which will provide time/location/opponent details for the quarterfinal games, will be released on Nov. 13).
- Our NEPSAC football bowl game, if the team qualifies, will be played either the evening of Nov. 18 or Nov. 19.
- All uniforms must be collected, and athletic center locker rooms cleaned out, before Thanksgiving Break.

"B Well" Protein Campaign
This week on campus, the Health and Wellness Center's "B Well" wellness program is educating students about protein. Students receive information in their email daily about healthy sources of protein, how to find out how much protein is in the food they're eating, how many grams of protein per day they need and other fun facts about protein. Information is also up on the TV screens around campus and in flyers. The protein campaign kicked off over the weekend with omelets at brunch!

Halloween festivities were made so much sweeter for students on Oct. 31, thanks to all the families who donated to, and volunteered at, our annual Ghostly Goodies. Thank you, parents!
