It's almost August, which means football season is eminent and perhaps you're thinking in shades of orange and blue (or not!). Either way, there are beautiful waterwise options in both colors in the Broomfield Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. Take the poll later in this newsletter to vote for your favorite! The next guided tour of the garden is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. | |
Applications open Aug.1 for 2024-25 Colorado Master Gardener Apprentice Program
Interested in horticultural training and giving back to your community? The Colorado State Extension Master Gardener Program may be for you. Master Gardeners offer outreach and research-based, horticultural education to the public in local schools, farmers' markets, teaching gardens and more!
Newly accepted volunteers begin as apprentices. This means you’re in training to become a Master Gardener. CSU horticulture faculty and staff provide rigorous training courses from November through March that occur through hybrid instruction: online, live webinars (also recorded) and optional, in-person opportunities for hands-on practice. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of Colorado's unique soils, plants, climate, and gardening challenges.
Following training, apprentices are encouraged to engage in local projects which vary widely. The program requires a 50-hour volunteer commitment the first year. There is a two-year apprentice option that allows 60 hours to be completed over two years. Visit the CSU Extension Facebook page to learn about some of the Master Gardeners’ recent volunteer activities in Broomfield and Adams County, or check out this calendar to find out where Master Gardeners will be next!
Ready to apply?
During the month of August, you may apply by visiting this link and clicking “Step 3: Apply to become an Extension Master Gardener Apprentice.” (The application link will not appear until Aug. 1.) Learn more about the application process here. We hope to hear from you!
