An Emerald Elementary student proudly displays artwork created in a horticulture-themed class taught by a team of local Master Gardeners. The 13-week program started with students installing a hydroponic tower garden, followed by hands-on lessons and activities each week. It will culminate with a salad bar celebrating the fruits of their labors. Yum! | |
Kicking off the Garden Season!
CSU Extension has two educational gardens that are home to a season of programs beginning soon.
The Teaching Vegetable Garden at Brunner Farmhouse is an outdoor classroom with two series to check out this May through September. Vegetable Garden Basics on second and fourth Thursdays will guide beginner gardeners through a season of practical topics like garden planning, irrigation, garden pests, seed saving and more. Family Learn and Grow on third Saturdays features garden activities for 3rd to 5th graders and their families designed for exploration and experiential learning. Attend your favorite topics or the whole series.
The Xeriscape Demonstration Garden is an official Plant Select® demonstration garden designed to showcase the wide variety of beautiful and unique plants that thrive in our climate. Monthly garden tours beginning June 14 will feature Colorado Master Gardeners discussing the plants and techniques featured in the garden, which Plant Select® designated as one of ten showcase gardens in the state. Visit the garden for inspiration any time near the George DiCiero City and County Building at the intersection of Descombes Drive and Spader Way.
