A Mid-Summer Vegetable Garden

Summer can be a rewarding time in the vegetable garden and a chance to begin reaping the harvests of your hard work! It’s also a time of high pest pressure, which can be extra frustrating when you’re ready to just kick your heels up and enjoy. One of the best things you can do for your garden right now is to stay vigilant. Some mid-summer pests can move in quickly and seriously affect your crops in a short amount of time if you’re not keeping an eye on them.

If you encounter unwelcome pests or other vegetable garden woes, CSU Extension has you covered. The ‘What’s Wrong With My Plant’ guide can help you identify and troubleshoot common issues. Just click on the type of plant to begin exploring potential problems and evidence-based solutions.

If your garden is so successful that you have harvest to share, find resources for donating fresh produce safely and track your produce donations through Grow and Give, a statewide modern victory garden project.

To extend the growing season, plant another round of cool weather crops from seed for a fall harvest. Your favorite spring crops like peas, green onions, carrots and many more can all be started soon by sowing seeds directly into the garden. The CSU Extension Seed Library has many varieties to choose from, donated by your local community. If you haven’t joined the Seed Library yet, start by filling out a membership form, then browse the seed selection on the second floor of the Broomfield Library.
