CSU SPUR Grand Opening
January 2022 brings the annual excitement of the National Western Stock Show and a new reason to visit the National Western Center year-round - the opening of the CSU SPUR campus! CSU SPUR consists of three new buildings focused on experiential learning and community-centered resources. Vida, the animal and human health building, will be open to the public beginning Jan. 7. SPUR will also include Hydro, the water building, and Terra, the food and agriculture building. Click here to learn more about SPUR, and don’t miss the upcoming events below!
Broomfield Seed Library
Seed libraries can take many forms, but they all promote biodiversity, wholesome foods, and a sharing economy. CSU Extension is opening Broomfield’s own seed library in 2022, and there are many ways to get involved! Join the kickoff event, a Community Seed Swap, on April 23, 2022, and look out for year-round volunteer opportunities in the months to come. Visit B-REx.com for more information.
Teaching Vegetable Garden at Brunner Farmhouse
The Broomfield Master Gardeners will be holding public classes throughout the 2022 season at the new vegetable garden at Brunner Farmhouse. The accessible garden will be an outdoor classroom for all ages, with the first season highly focused on youth programs. Look for classes in the vegetable garden beginning Summer 2022!

Winter Watering Critical this Year
Broomfield is experiencing a severe drought. Watering is crucial for perennials, trees, shrubs and lawns during prolonged dry periods in the fall and winter. To keep your landscape healthy throughout the year, water one to two times per month when temperatures are above 40 degrees F and there is no snow on the ground. For more details, check out the CSU Extension Fact Sheet 7.211 Fall and Winter Watering.

Andy Kramer
Andy Kramer became a Broomfield Master Gardener in 2011 after retiring from being a junior high and high school science teacher in Denver, Douglas County, and Aurora for 39 years.
A native of Colorado, Andy learned his love of flower gardening and volunteering from his father.
One of Andy’s favorite tasks to help with as a Master Gardener is staffing the helpline. He enjoys finding thorough and thoughtful answers to respond to the questions sent in by the public. This is because as Andy states, “ [it is]... helping people to enjoy the science and art of gardening.” He also helps maintain the Master Gardener Xeriscape Demonstration Garden located in front of the City and County Buildings at One Descombes Drive.
Andy has volunteered for many science related organizations such as Odyssey of the Mind and the Colorado Science Convention. He is currently serving on the Nominating Commission for Judicial District 17. When not giving so much of his time to volunteering and gardening, Andy enjoys traveling with his family. In 2019 he traveled with his wife to Argentina where his daughter was studying abroad.
Andy has been a great asset to the Broomfield Master Gardener program. He always shows up with a smile and willingness to help however he can. We appreciate all he does for the program!
