Looking Forward to Spring!

There’s a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks: daylight saving time begins on March 14, spring officially starts on March 20, those first bloomers of the season will be popping soon, and it’s a great time to start vegetables and annual flowers indoors!

When and how do you start seeds? Timing is important because you don’t want to transplant warm season plants like peppers and tomatoes outside until after the last frost date of the year (a good rule of thumb is to wait until Mother’s Day or later). You can do the math for specific varieties based on seed packet information, but planting seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the target transplant date is a safe bet.

CSU Extension covered seed starting in depth as part of Broomfield’s G.R.E.E.N. Calendar Series on Feb. 20. If you missed the live class, you can watch the recording any time, and you are always welcome to send specific gardening questions to BroomfieldMG@colostate.edu.
