Public Health Update

You can always find day to day changes on Broomfield’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard, along with information on regional hospital capacity and demographic details. Visit the state website for more information on hospital capacity, outbreaks and county case information. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) website updates cases daily at 4 p.m.

Note that the changes detailed here (+) are the change from Sunday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept. 13. Data is released by the state at 4 p.m. each day and reported on Broomfield’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard by 6 p.m. Hospitalizations to date may reflect information that was recently reported to Broomfield Public Health but may have happened in previous weeks.

Free COVID-19 testing will take place on Tuesdays until November 3 from 2-6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Health and Human Services building at 100 Spader Way. Pre-registration not needed. Testing is for those who are symptomatic and are Broomfield residents, work in Broomfield or go to school in Broomfield.

How do I find out if there is an outbreak at a business, school, or a daycare?

Each Wednesday, the state website is updated with new outbreak information, including outbreaks that have been resolved and those that are active. The state includes the name of the facility, the facility type and the county where it is located, along with the number of people affected. On Thursday last week, the state launched an outbreak map on the COVID-19 website.

An outbreak is defined depending on the type of facility and investigation typically involves the local public health agency in consultation with a team of investigators at the state. The state has defined school outbreaks according to classroom or cohort, staff outbreak or a school-wide outbreak. Child care facilities are following similar guidance. A business-related outbreak is defined according to cases identified in the workplace. A confirmed outbreak is typically two or more people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in a workplace/facility, with onset within 14 days.

CDC has resources for businesses and workplaces, including guidance on how to prevent COVID-19 in the workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also provides COVID-19 prevention and control guidance for workers and employers. Information on operating schools during COVID-19 from the CDC is also available.

Upcoming NB Zuni Closure at 144th: Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 16, the northbound lane of Zuni from Waterside Lane to 144th Avenue will be closed for utility installation as part of the North Area Force Main project. The area is expected to remain closed until Tuesday, Sept. 22. Southbound Zuni at 144th Avenue will remain open. The work has been coordinated with the 144th Ave. paving operations.

Rescued Great Horned Owl:
Thanks to the community member who called Broomfield Police Animal Services about an injured Great Horned Owl over Labor Day weekend. Animal Services Officer Amy Voltin brought the owl to Rocky Mountain Birds of Prey for an exam and treatment, as it's always best to let the experts deal with wildlife.

Fall Paper Shred Event: Residents, you can bring three boxes (banker's or copy paper boxes weighing no more than 35 lbs. per box) of paper or three 32-gallon trash bags of shredded paper, for safe and secure destruction on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Norman Smith Service Center, located at 3001 W. 124th Ave. This event is free and requires masks for attendance.

Senior Special Needs Financial Assistance Program: Adults, 60+ can receive assistance paying for dental and medical procedures, hearing aids, vision assistance, medication requirements, and other items/activities that support your well-being, so you can live independently and age in place. Requests for assistance are considered on a case-by-case basis to address needs not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or other health insurance. Broomfield Library Friends Foundation Fall Book Sale: Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Broomfield Library. The sale will be completely outdoors and all books have been quarantined and cleaned. Masks and physical distancing measures are in place, browsing will be restricted browsing ("you touch it, it's yours"), and check or credit card payments preferred (No change for cash payments.)
