Frequently Asked Questions:
How is Contact Tracing done in Broomfield?
- Broomfield’s epidemiology team has been able to contact over 90% of cases within 24 hours since the first case was identified in Broomfield. Staff asks detailed questions as part of the case interviews to try to pinpoint the source of exposure. Often the source of transmission (a household contact, a co-worker) can be confirmed, although data is showing an increasing number of people who cannot identify what activities they have been engaged in that may have put them at risk for being exposed to COVID-19. This means that they have been to multiple places (grocery, work, sports, etc.) but cannot pinpoint an exposure to a positive case.
- Maintaining a roster of employees/attendance is an element in operating guidance for many industries to ensure contact tracing is more effective. For example, sports teams and other planned events are required to maintain some kind of registration/attendance list, schools are also recommended to use seating charts depending on the grade level, and restaurants are encouraged to use a reservation system as well.
- Mobile phone exposure notification technology that was recently rolled out will allow for people to share information with anyone they have exposed, should they test positive. The hope is that this will encourage quarantining as needed after the exposure.
I got a notice on my phone about an Exposure Notification app. What is this?
-
If you enable the Colorado Exposure Notifications app, you will be notified if you have had contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 on your mobile device. As of last week, over 587,000 people had activated the app. When enabled, your smartphone shares anonymous tokens with other users through the phones’ Bluetooth technology. If another user tests positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day period and chooses to upload their results, you will receive an alert of potential exposure if you may be at risk of infection, and instructions on recommended next steps, including information on quarantine and contacting local public agencies. Tokens are not associated with any phone number, name, location or IP address, and they change every 15 minutes to add an extra layer of anonymity. Learn more about CO Exposure Notifications at addyourphone.com.

- Reminder: With the end of daylight saving time, criminals are going to be looking to take advantage of the shorter days by targeting unlocked vehicles and open garage doors. “Crimes of Opportunity” happen every day. Don’t be a victim. Make sure to always remove valuables from your car and lock it. Also, always close your garage door behind you, especially at night, and alert your neighbors if you suspect their garage has accidentally been left open.
