Frequently Asked Questions:
What side effects can I expect from the vaccine? Will I have worse side effects from the second dose?

  • Benefits of a COVID-19 vaccine outweigh the side effects, which most people find to be mild and only last a few days. Of those who do experience side effects, the most common are swelling and redness at the injection site, minor swelling in the arm you got the injection, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain, nausea/vomiting and fever.
  • Side effects might be more intense after the second dose, but it’s important to get both for full protection. You will not be fully protected from COVID-19 until two weeks after your second dose. Until then:
  • If you have symptoms, immediately self-isolate and contact your local public health authority or health care provider.
  • Wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet from others, wash your hands, avoid crowds, and limit your contact with those outside your household.
