"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., civil rights leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate

The Founders and the Vote

In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote, "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed."

The right of suffrage is a fundamental Article in Republican Constitutions. The regulation of it is, at the same time, a task of peculiar delicacy. Allow the right [to vote] exclusively to property [owners], and the rights of persons may be oppressed... . Extend it equally to all, and the rights of property [owners] ...may be overruled by a majority without property....

Vote so that your voice rings into the future....

Just Vote No ON Prop HH, Prop II, and Issue 7A.

As we communicated previously, there are three key issues on this year's ballot. Proposition HH, Proposition II, and Issue 7A.

Our recommendation on these three tax increases (yes, they are tax increases) is pretty straight-forward. Just Vote No.

If you have not voted yet, and are looking for more information on these issues, please visit our 2023 Ballot Measures page.

The page also include information on where you should return your ballot. The City and County of Broomfield also has a website with ballot drop off locations. Please remember to return your ballots by 7PM on Tuesday November 7th!

Reviewing the 2024 Proposed Budget

Broomfield Taxpayer Matters is beginning to review the proposed 2024 Annual Budget. We have started formulating questions to ask which will be forwarded to the City Manager. We will also be looking at some metrics and providing our usual analysis for a high-level understanding of where your money is being spent.

Since our Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) are a large part of the budget, we have started reviewing the 2024 CIP Plan. We also have some questions regarding some discrepancies we have found in this plan. Stay tuned, we will be back after the election.

We may be posting items of interest on our website as well, so continue to look for information there.
