Pillar of Hudson Catholic,

Brother Patrick King, FSC

Has Died

"Enter to Learn, Learn to Serve"

In the early evening of Wednesday, May 10th, word arrived from Brother Raymond Murphy, FSC of the passing of our beloved Brother Patrick King, FSC, the longest serving Christian Brother in the history of Hudson Catholic, at 33 years. Brother Pat had been living and working at the school where he attended high school, St. John's College High School in Washington D.C. (est. 1861), so he had gone 'home' following his departure from the Brothers Residence in Jersey City in 2012. Brother Pat passed away a day after entering Adventist White Oak Medical Center, White Oak being a Maryland suburb of D.C.

Tentative arrangements are for a funeral mass on Wednesday, May 17th at St. John's and interment at Ammandale, the cemetery for FSC. Check at the FSC-DENA site, fscdena.org, for the posting of confirmed arrangements.

Sixty-two years a Christian Brother, Brother Pat was born Edward Warren King on May 17, 1943 in Washington D.C. He took the habit on September 7, 1961. Beginning in 1966, and having arrived for his first tour of duty at McGinley Square, he became known as Brother Patrick King, and it was in Jersey City that he took his final vows on May 17, 1968, just as we were graduating our first class, and at the tender age of 25 years young.

It is impossible in this short space and limited time to fully describe this man's contributions to the Hudson Catholic community and what he meant to thousands of us. We'll let those who loved Brother Pat do that instead, and will plan a tribute to the good Brother in a future issue of Building the Legacy. If you would care to contribute to that, please send your remarks to advancement@hudsoncatholic.org.
