Making the Invisible Visible 

Broward County has extended the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program creating a more supportive environment for the community. A globally recognized initiative, this program allows residents and visitors with non-visible disabilities to discreetly indicate they need additional support, understanding, or time by wearing a sunflower symbol. This simple yet powerful tool ensures they receive the assistance they need. Learn how Broward County supports the program and how to get your Sunflower identifier.

Time to Feast

Dine Out Lauderdale Restaurant Months

August through September, locals and visitors are invited to savor specially curated, three-course prix fixe menus available for lunch at $35 and for dinner at tiers of $45, $60 or a luxe option for $75 at participating restaurants throughout the destination.

Job Opportunities at FLL

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) will host its 4th Annual Job Fair on Wednesday, August 27 from 9am-1pm at the Broward County Convention Center. Connect with a wide range of employers supporting operations at FLL. You'll also be able to attend Interview Tips & Techniques Sessions and get resources to help you improve your resume. Parking is free. 

Animal Care In the News

In partnership with NBC 6’s annual Clear the Shelters campaign in August, Broward County Animal Care kicked off the campaign with a special feature on "South Florida Live." Viewers were taken behind the scenes of the County's pet adoption operations with highlights on how residents can help save lives by adopting, fostering, or spreading awareness. NBC Universal's annual campaign has helped more than 1.2 million pets find homes since 2015. To support the campaign, Animal Care is waiving all pet adoption fees.

Sales Tax Exemptions

School starts next week for Broward County Public Schools. Time to get ready with Florida's Back to School Sales Tax Holiday in August. Also in effect, sales tax on many disaster and hurricane preparedness supplies has been permanently eliminated in Florida.

Operation Safe Haven

Broward County’s Office of Emergency Management recently held a full-scale hurricane response activation exercise to test the County’s ability to address public safety priorities during a weather emergency. Operation Safe Haven focused on the the County's response to a pre-landfall of a fictional Category 3 hurricane. The exercise involved 150+ people representing multiple agencies at four locations around the County including the Emergency Operations Center in Plantation.

Broward County has been recognized by the National Association of County Information Officers with 25 Awards of Excellence. The awards honor the quality of public information and education outreach campaigns by county governments. Broward’s award-winning programs included attention-getting videos, informational websites, detailed brochures and publications, powerful newsletters, creative graphics, and public outreach campaigns.

Did you know Broward County currently has 5,744 Certified NatureScape properties? NatureScapes use native plants to provide habitat for native and migratory wildlife, conserve water, and minimize the use of common pollutants. Certified NatureScapes are landscapes that are recognized by either the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) or the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program.
