February 2026

A monthly community newsletter about life in Broward County and for residents and visitors to get the latest information on services, programs and events.

Celebrations of History, Arts and Literacy

Step through castle gates and into the days of yore at the 34th Annual Florida Renaissance Festival, a one-of-a-kind family-friendly event taking place on weekends now through March 29 at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. Travel back in time to the 16th century and explore the artisan marketplace with 100+ merchant booths displaying blown glass, hammered pewter, hand-tooled leather, pottery and a wealth of other riches. Feast on a cornucopia of foods fit for a king or queen while enjoying live performances and jousting events.

IGNITE Broward, South Florida's premier public art and light festival, returns for its fifth year, February 13-22. Presented by Broward Cultural Division and produced by MAD Arts, the festival will feature more than 25 interactive light- and sound-based installations across four locations in Broward County, spanning ten nights of immersive art, projection mapping, interactive sculpture, sound-based installations, live performances, and family-friendly programming by local, national, and international artists.

One Book One Broward 2026, going on now through February 28, is the Library's annual literacy initiative to help build deeper connections through a single book community read. This year's theme, "Our Nature: How Our Physical Environment Can Lead Us to Seek Hope, Courage, and Connection," is guided by the storytelling in the novel The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson, and the youth companion book, The First Blade of Sweetgrass by Suzanne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey.

Florida Severe Weather Awareness Week is observed each year to increase awareness and preparedness for severe weather hazards. Did you know Florida is the lightning capital of North America or that rip currents kill more people in Florida in an average year than hurricanes? Use this time to review your safety plans and help keep Broward County ready and resilient. Each day this week focuses on a specific weather event. Check out today's focus on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Follow Broward's Office of Emergency Management for year-round emergency info on X @ReadyBroward and on Facebook @BrowardEMD.

February is American Heart Month, a time when everyone is encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. The County is a strong supporter of this effort and has brought back the Heart Program with a new name, a new provider, and a new application process, but the same opportunity for eligible residents to obtain a potentially lifesaving, free heart test.

The Broward County / Florida Panthers Preventive Heart Program will offer free preventive heart tests, provided by the Cleveland Clinic, to qualified Broward County residents 45+. The cardiac CT screening can identify plaque and blockages or narrowing of the coronary arteries. The new program will begin accepting applications soon.
