As we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11, the County thanks all veterans for their invaluable service to our country, including numerous County employees who have served and are currently serving as reservists. Broward County’s Veterans Services provide free assistance with all veteran related benefits to local veterans and their families.
Honor Flight South Florida, in partnership with Broward County Aviation Department and Spirit Airlines, recently hosted a veterans' trip to Washington, D.C., from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The one-day Honor Flight to the nation's capital allowed 70 veterans to visit military landmarks.
Upon their return, Broward County Mayor Lamar P. Fisher (pictured above), along with dozens of well-wishers, gathered at FLL to welcome our veterans home. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the celebration.
U.S. Flag Disposal Program
As part of a national campaign to support flag etiquette, Broward County participates in a flag disposal program providing designated boxes to properly dispose of American flags.
New Facility for Survivors of Sexual Assault and Child Abuse
The County recently celebrated the grand opening of the new Nancy J. Cotterman Center, the County's only Certified Sexual Assault Program, Accredited Children's Advocacy Center and Child Protection Team. The Oakland Park-based facility will open soon to the public, providing a safe haven for survivors of sexual assault, child abuse and human trafficking.
2023 Property Taxes Have Been Mailed
Broward CountyRecords, Taxes & Treasury Division has begun accepting payments for 2023 property tax bills. Tax bills are available to view, print and pay online. Property taxes must be paid no later than April 1, 2024 to avoid penalties. Pay early and take advantage of payment discounts.
Hundreds of manatees will begin to make their way down to Broward County’s warm water refuges as the weather gets colder. Manatee Season starts November 15 and runs through March. Whether you are a boater or wildlife viewer on land, you can help protect these gentle giants. Use the 'I Spy a Manatee' app to report manatees sightings and their activities. You’ll also find manatee protection and boating safety zones in Broward County.
The first new-build terminal in decades is coming to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Construction has started on the site of the new two-level, five-gate domestic Terminal 5 building. Once completed, Terminal 5 will feature all the traditional airport accompaniments and connect to an onsite parking garage and Terminal 4. Get the latest airport developments.

Broward County is the proud recipient of a U.S. Patent, a first for the County. Highway and Bridge Maintenance, a division of the Public Works Department, invented a larvicide-spraying system designed to reduce the population of mosquitoes and save money.
Parks and Recreation Division joins the ranks of elite agencies across the country by earning national accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association.
Broward County has been named one of the 2023 Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America from Healthiest Employers for providing many services to motivate and help employees reach their wellness goals.
