Celebrating Veterans

Honor Flight South Florida, in partnership with Broward County Aviation Department and Spirit Airlines, recently hosted a veterans trip to Washington, D.C. The one-day Honor Flight to the nation's capital allowed 67 veterans to visit military landmarks. Upon their return, family, friends and well-wishers gathered at the terminal for a heartwarming surprise celebration to show support and gratitude.

Broward County Library is committed to preserving the past with the Veterans History Project, where vets and their families record and hand down their stories to future generations.

Create Your Legacy

This Veterans Day on November 11, the County thanks all veterans for their invaluable service to our country, including numerous County employees who have served and are currently serving as reservists. Broward County’s Veterans Services provides free assistance with all veteran related benefits to local veterans and their families. As part of a national campaign to support flag etiquette, Broward County participates in a flag disposal program providing designated boxes to properly dispose of American flags.

Protect our Gentle Giants

Manatee

Hundreds of manatees will begin to make their way down to Broward County’s warm water refuges as the weather gets colder up north. November 15 marks the beginning of the state-wide manatee season which runs through March. Seasonal speed limit zones and manatee protection zones are implemented throughout the state as air and water temperatures drop. As part of the County's Manatee Conservation Program, the Natural Resources Division reminds boaters to look out for manatees on County waterways (including the Intracoastal Waterway and side canals).
