Help Empty the Shelters

Broward County Animal Care returns with its Fall in Love - Empty the Shelter free pet adoption event running through October 15. Partnering with the Bissell Pet Foundation, Animal Care challenges South Florida residents to adopt a shelter pet to break down adoption barriers. Adoption fees will be covered by the Bissell Pet Foundation. All adopted pets will be fully vaccinated, sterilized and microchipped.

Scam Alert

There has been a recent phone scam involving individuals posing as Animal Care staff demanding payment for the return of lost pets. In some cases, the scammers tell residents their pets are injured. These scammers use technology to disguise their caller IDs, making it look like the calls are from Animal Care.

Animal Care will never ask for payment over the phone. If someone contacts you claiming to have your pet and requests money, it is a scam. If you receive a call, contact authorities immediately or call Animal Care (954-359-1313). Remember to maintain current pet registration.

Going Solar

A large-scale solar canopy was recently installed above two full-size basketball courts at Reverend Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD) in Fort Lauderdale, next to the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC). This impressive solar canopy installation is expected to offset 30 percent of the energy usage at AARLCC. One of Broward County's missions is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. So far, the County has completed 16 other solar installations.
