Celebrating Our Hispanic Culture
National Hispanic Heritage Month, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries, begins on September 15 and is celebrated through October 15. Broward County recognizes the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the U.S. and celebrates their heritage. Join Broward County Library at the many cultural events happening this month.
National Preparedness Month raises awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. This year’s theme is “A Lasting Legacy: The life you’ve built is worth protecting." By taking simple steps, like making an emergency plan and building a supply kit, you can be ready to respond. Now is the time to think about how disasters (natural or human caused) can affect you and begin to prepare. To start, review our Hurricane Preparedness Guide. (Find theSpanish version here).
Explore new restaurants or revisit some of your favorites during Dine Out Lauderdale. Through September, enjoy taste-tempting three-course prix-fixe menus at $35 and $45. You can also rejuvenate at some of the best spas during Greater Fort Lauderdale's Spa Days. Save on specialty spa treatments with most deals starting at just $99. It's all part of Visit Lauderdale's LauderDeals where you'll find savings on hotels and attractions too!
There are more than 210,000 people in our community who face food instability issues; sadly nearly 80,000 of them are children. September is Hunger Action Month® and Broward County urges residents to donate what they can by dropping off non-perishable food items at one of our collection bins located throughout the County. Items collected during this month will be donated to Feeding South Florida. Last year, nearly 1,800 pounds of food was collected, providing 1,500 meals to those in need. Please do what you can to help.
