Brown Street COGIC Starts New Monthly Newsletter
You are reading the 1st edition of the New Brown Street COGIC Newsletter. This Newsletter will be produced at the beginning of each month and emailed out to everyone who has signed up to receive it via the church website.

Why do we need a newsletter?

Yes, a monthly newsletter helps everyone in the congregation know what is happening and when.

When the congregation can read about a upcoming events that are scheduled to occur it is easier for them to plan to attend.

Sometimes congregation members have to miss a event due to work or other commitments. However, they are still interested in knowing what took place. Featured articles can keep congregation members stay 'in the know' about events they missed and can also be a great way to recognize special guests, and say thank you to volunteers.

If you have a upcoming event you would like featured in the newsletter please writeup the article or information you would like included in the next Newsletter and give it to Rev. Dawn Huddleston by the 25th of each month. If you have any questions about the newsletter please call Rev. Dawn Huddleston at (217) 717-6287

New Children's Church Program
Sunday, Sept 16th We held an audition for the New Children's Church Praise Teams. We will have two teams of 4 kids who will lead worship in children's church every other Sunday. Here's the children that made the team! Congrats! Job well done! We are teaching them "How to be Godly leaders" by first leading themselves and others to Christ.
Starting in September, Brown Street will be taking Child Evangelism to a new level by implementing a Children's church service.

Children begin by joining in the adult worship service upstairs, but after the music portion of the service they go to the Newly Designed Children's Church room to experience their own children's church service. The same Word of God is taught, but at a level that the children can understand, remember, and relate to.

"Kids leading Kids in Worship"  This Children's Church service is unique because it is Kid led. This means that the children lead the prayer, they take the offering, they have their own praise team, and they help in teaching the Children's sermon which is led by Rev. Dawn Huddleston.  "We want the children to have a active part of worship. It's their service! I'm there to guide, encourage, and help them implement worship and teach the Word." -Rev. Dawn Huddleston READ MORE

Hallelujah Night Fall Festival 2018
This year Brown Street will be adding a new twist to a treasured tradition. In the past Brown Street has held a event on October 31st called Hallelujah night. This was a fun event which gave children a positive alternative to celebrating Halloween. However, this year the leadership has decided to host a 'trunk or treat' event in the parking lot. The goal of this event to meet and reach those parents and children who will already be out and about in the neighborhood trick or treating. We desire to introduce them to Brown Street and let the community know about our newly redesigned children's program.
"The goal of this church is SOULS! To reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And to do that we must reach outside our walls and into the community . We must show them that we care about them, we love them, and we desire for them to be a part of Brown Street!" -Rev. Dawn Huddleston

What is 'Trunk or Treat'?
Trunk or Treat is a fun alternative to traditional trick or treating. Congregation members are invited to park their car on the driveway with their trunk facing out. Then they will decorate their trunk in a fun 'Non-Frightening' way. Parents and their children from the community will come and visit each car trunk and reach into the trunk for their piece of candy. This will give congregation members a chance to meet members of the community and share with them about our church and the New Children's programs. We will also have a small bonfire for roasting marshmallows. This bonfire will be surrounded by hay bales for people to sit on. Donations of large marshmallows would be greatly appreciated.

Brown Street Visits Holy Tabernacle in Peoria Illinois to Celebrate a Pastoral Anniversary for Pastor Robert Cross, Sr.
Friday evening approximately 20+ members of Brown Street took a road trip to Peoria Illinois to visit our sister church, Holy Tabernacle to celebrate a Pastoral Anniversary for Pastor Robert Cross.

The evening began when the Brown Street Praise Team lead by District Missionary Erma Norris shared two powerful songs of worship. The praise team did a wonderful job representing Brown Street and honoring the Lord with their music.

Next First Lady, Florence Day gave honor to Pastor Cross and the leadership of Holy Tabernacle and thanked them for their warm loving welcome. First Lady Day introduced Rev. Dawn Huddleston so that she could share about all the exciting things that the Lord has been doing at Brown Street.

She shared with the congregation about how the Lord had brought Pastor & 1st Lady Day together with the Huddleston's, and how the two couples share one solid passion of reaching souls for Christ.

Next she shared about the successful Vacation Bible School that Brown Street had experienced. As well as, how Brown Street has re-designed their entire Sunday School and Children's Church departments with the soul purpose implementing child evangelism.

The evening continued with Pastor Wilbur Day sharing a powerful, spirit filled message of salvation; concluded by a prayer and alter call.

Visiting Holy Tabernacle has been a long and honorable tradition for Brown Street. And Brown Street will soon be returning the favor by hosting Holy Tabernacle will during Pastor Days Anniversary Celebration. We look forward to seeing our dear friends again soon from Holy Tabernacle COGIC, and may the Lord continue to bless this wonderful spirit filled ministry.
Brown Street Sanctuary Gets
a New Fresh Updated Look!
Next time you enter Brown Street be prepared for things to look a little different. First of all, as you enter you will nice a fresh coat of ice blue paint in the entry way. Then as you look up you will see that the old light fixture has been replaced with a beautiful gold and cut crystal chandelier.

"It has been at least 10 years or more since the sanctuary has been painted, it was desperately needed and looks fantastic." -Pastor Wilbur Day

As you enter the holy sanctuary you will see that the cream colored paint has been updated to match the beautiful ice blue paint that begins in the entry way. This color really lightens up the entire sanctuary, and really makes the darker blue pew padding really pop! You will also notice that the wall behind the alter has a color that is just slightly darker than the side walls.

"It is important that we prepare for the harvest that the Lord is preparing Brown Street to receive. As first time visitors enter the church we want them to immediately be able to see that this is a church that is alive and active, and filled with the Lord's presence." -Rev. Dawn Huddleston

Special thanks to Brother Al Carter, 1st Lady Day, & Rev. Dawn Huddleston for working diligently together to paint the sanctuary. As Pastor Day says, "Team Work will make the Dream Work!"

"Brown Street is the Mother Church of all the COGIC churches in Springfield, Illinois. We have a rich history, but as Pastor says, "What is Coming is GREATER than what has been! So we are preparing for what is coming!" -1st Lady Day

Now that the church has a fresh face lift you can do your part by inviting your family and friends to visit Brown Street. Pray for God to send in the people who need the Lord. And be proud of your home church, Brown Street COGIC, the mother church of Springfield Illinois.
