During the Month of August
|
|
Indie Folk Rock music will be the focus of the Saturday, August 20 "Concert on the Porch" featuring a young Jackson, Tenn., band called Coopertheband and Brownsville's Dog and Butterfly duo. The free concert played from the porch of the Sleepy John Estes home begins at 7 p.m., at the Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville.
Coopertheband (all one word) is a self-described "bramily (band/friends/family) composed of six massive music nerds with minds to rhyme and twelve hot feet." Based in Jackson, the band has found success nationally on networks such as HBO, ESPN and TruTV, a well as the hit show "Without a Trace." To date Coopertheband has released two albums -
Venture
(2010) and
Kings EP
(2012) - which is based on the life of David from the Bible. They are currently working on their latest album entitled Kingdoms and expect it to release this fall.
Dog and Butterfly is the name Brownsville couple Bobby and Becky Stokely use when they perform acoustically as a duo. Both are regular members of The Waiting, a well-known band who performs regularly throughout West Tennessee. Playing their favorite country, rock, blues and folk music makes for a diverse and interesting show.
Bleacher seating is available or bring lawn chairs for the outdoor concert. Concessions will be available on site. You are also welcome to bring a picnic or visit the surrounding restaurants.
Concert on the Porch is presented free and offered once a month on the third Saturday, June through September. For a complete schedule of upcoming concerts, visit www.westtnheritage.com or call 731-779-9000.
