The Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (WOWC) will be receiving 200,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) from Bruce Power to be dispersed to front-line community workers in the fight against COVID-19. This is part of Bruce Power’s recent commitment of 600,000 pieces to be distributed across Ontario.
The WOWC is a not-for-profit organization representing 15 upper and single-tier municipalities in southwestern Ontario with more than three-million residents. Bruce Power will deliver the PPE with the recipients then dispersing it to front-line workers within each of their respective communities. Bruce Power has worked to procure and plan to distribute these materials using its Supply Chain capabilities, and is targeting to distribute the pieces before the
end of April.
“This commitment of personal protective equipment is part of our overall commitment to support local communities, rural Ontario and the broader needs working with hospitals and the Ministry of Health,” said James Scongack, Executive Vice-President of Corporate Affairs and Operational Services for Bruce Power. “As a company based in rural Ontario, we’re very grateful for the work being done by the Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus on behalf of its rural and small urban communities. We want to make sure that the courageous front-line workers in these communities have the proper personal protective equipment.”
Jim Ginn, the Chair of the WOWC who is also the Warden of Huron County, expressed his gratitude to Bruce Power for lending a hand to health-care workers, first responders and others in southwestern Ontario.
“This is a time when we all must be working together to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jim Ginn, Warden of Huron County and Chair of the WOWC. “I’d like to extend my immense thanks to the Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus for working with Bruce Power to bring these essential supplies to the counties who will be receiving the items.
“On behalf of the County of Huron, I also want to thank Bruce Power for coming through in a big way and helping to keep our community safe. These much-needed supplies will drastically assist our front-line workers who have been working courageously, selflessly, and tirelessly in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.”
Ernie Hardeman, Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said today’s announcement is a great example of rural-based companies and communities collaborating to help their people.
