Two Boys Needed a Break From Chaos
For Bryson and Kason, ages 10 and 11, home life was chaos. They dreamed of the simple summer pleasures of childhood - swimming, backyard games and freedom.

When their Dallas CASA volunteer Ashley found a sleepaway camp that would take them for one week, the boys jumped at the chance. Could a week away be the break everyone needed?

Dallas CASA Recognizes Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month
The Dallas County Child Abuse Prevention Coalition (CAPCO) and its partners hosted a child abuse prevention awareness event Monday, April 10, in the parking lot at Dallas CASA. The event honored the seven children who lost their lives due to abuse or neglect in 2022 and recognized all child welfare agencies and nonprofits serving children and families in need.

The event’s emcee was Miss Texas Averie Bishop. In-N-Out Burger donated lunch for the event. CAPCO agencies include Dallas CASA, the Dallas County Child Welfare Board, Family Compass, TexProtects and many more. In addition to colleagues from Child Protective Services and Child Protective Investigations, the Dallas Police Department’s Child Abuse Squad and the Dallas District Attorney’s Crimes Against Children Division were also invited to the CAPCO event.

Learning With Dallas CASA
For many families, their first encounter with the child welfare system is a life-changing one. They receive support services, and the children experience positive and hopefully permanent changes in their home lives.

For other families, reports to Child Protective Services (CPS) add up over the years, with reports accumulating and little real change occurring. What can Dallas CASA volunteer do to support families on repeated involvement with the child welfare system? Read more at Dallas CASA's blog.
