Happy National Social Workers Month to all of our hardworking Social Workers. This year has been more difficult than most and you have been working overtime to serve your communities in this time of need. We appreciate everything you do. Be sure to thank the Social Workers in your life for all that they do.

It's also National Nutrition Month. We'd like to thank SuperOne Foods for their donation to our monthly giveaway!

We have NEW DATES FOR MHFA for EMS. Thank you all for being patient as we worked through the technological glitches to get these classes set up. We should now be ready to begin registration. More information below!

We hope that as winter turns into spring, the days seem a little longer, more hopeful, and full of possibilities. Have a great month!

Social work has been around for more than a century and has made significant contributions to our nation. Social workers have helped Americans secure voting rights, equal rights, Social Security, unemployment insurance, and other programs.

Social workers often are unsung heroes. You play an essential, but often unseen role, helping people from all walks get the support they need. During National Social Work Month we hope our Social Worker partners feel appreciated and supported.

For those of you who are not social workers, we hope you will advocate for the social workers in your community and let them know they are appreciated!

New Recovery Podcast

Lifeboat Addiction Recovery is a Michigan based recovery agency offering peer services, training, and professional development support.

They have recently started a recovery podcast that is available for FREE on Audible. Share with those clients, friends, or family in your life who might find this resource helpful.

SAMHSA Quarterly Journal

This quarter's edition of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) journal focuses on EMS and their experiences. There are opportunities for training and important information on self-care and mental health support.

NEW GLRC Recovery House Coming to Marquette

GLRC will be opening The John Kivela House, a new Recovery House for men in Marquette this Spring. The house will be the home to 5-7 men living in recovery and is located close to GLRC's Adult Residential Services facility.

MHFA Classes for EMS

One of Beyond the Save's goals is to train EMS providers in Mental Health First Aid. These classes will be open to any EMS personnel across the UP and will be free of charge.

Mental Health First Aid for EMS teaches you how to identify, understand

and respond to signs of mental illnesses and Substance Use Disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or Substance Use problem

and help connect them to the appropriate care. It focuses on the unique experiences and needs of firefighters and EMS personnel and is a valuable resource that can make a difference in their lives, their coworkers’ and families’ lives, and the communities they serve.

NEW MHFA Schedule:

Virtual Class: April 22nd, 12-4pm

(details will be sent via email after registration)

In Person Class: TBA for April

The virtual class consists of a 2 hour self-guided portion(to be completed before the class) and a 4 hour virtual class. In person classes are 8 hours. More classes can be offered to meet demand. Contact Ellen Lindblom for more information at [email protected] or 906-228-9699, ext 1011.

GLRC also offers MHFA class for the community. Please contact Ellen if you are interested in hosting a class.

Use MyPlate.gov to find out how to balance your plate and use their App for easy meal planning and shopping guides.
