As the United States turns 250, our public discourse has hit a new low, in large part because of the way the internet and social media are designed. This talk looks at how today's information systems reward speed, confidence, and performance over understanding and deliberation. It also asks what a healthier civic information environment could look like, and how we get there.

Led by experienced Tarot reader Tara Ryazansky of tarot2thepeople, this beginner-friendly Intuitive Tarot Workshop is an interactive introduction to the symbolism, imagery, and personal interpretation at the heart of Tarot reading.
Participants will explore card meanings, practice simple spreads, and develop techniques for trusting their own intuition, whether reading for themselves or others. No prior experience is necessary, and all are welcome. tarot2thepeople was founded in 2025 with a mission to make Tarot more accessible and welcoming through public library programming across New Jersey.

In honor of the nation's 250th anniversary, Art with Liz is exploring a fitting new theme this month: Artists Who Influenced Early America.
This week, students will discover the work of Jennie Augusta Brownscombe, one of the founding members of the Art Students League in New York, whose lovingly researched paintings of Colonial life offered 19th century audiences a warm escape from the pressures of industrialization.
Registration is required for both in-person and online attendance and closes 15 minutes before each class.

Therapy Dog Story Time

Riley Maverick Mills is back, and early readers are in for a treat.
Read With a Therapy Dog is a warm and confidence-building program where kids get to practice reading out loud to the library's favorite four-legged guest, a calm, patient, and very good therapy dog.
Reading aloud to animals has been shown to reduce anxiety and build skills in young readers who are just finding their footing. Books will be available to choose from, and every participant takes home a special Riley-themed gift and coloring page.
For children ages 6 and up.
