Turning Corn Into Cash

Cub Scout Lucas D. raised enough funds for his entire Scouting year by selling more than $6,000 worth of popcorn last fall. "All Lucas wanted was the AirPods, but he got that in the first weekend of selling," describes Lucas's dad when talking about the popcorn sale. Not only did Lucas earn the AirPods from the prize sheet, he also paid for a week of Day Camp for both him and his younger sister as well as a session of Cub Scout Summer Camp at Camp Akela! He even had enough to purchase a brand new full uniform.

The secret to Lucas's success was using the "Show and Deliver" method where he used a wagon to bring popcorn door to door. This allowed him to sell and deliver the product immediately instead of just taking an order and delivering it weeks later. "Why walk around with just an order form when you can walk around with the actual product?" says Lucas's dad.

This year, Lucas and his sister Layla, a new Lion Scout, will be selling popcorn together. Their goal is pay for another exciting year of camp and other scouting activities...plus earn some sweet prizes!

Family Adventure Camp is going to be a blast this fall as Cub Scouts shoot arrows, BBs, go fishing, and campout with their family! These events are designed for the whole family to provide an exciting adventure at the start of the new school year! While at the event, kids will get a taste of what Cub Scouting offers such as camping, shooting sports, games, crafts, campfires, spending quality time with your family and more! Participants can arrive Friday night to camp and stay through the weekend or can simply arrive for just the activities on Saturday.

Volunteers Needed at the Buckeye Council Office

We are looking for volunteers to come to the Buckeye Council on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 9:30am-2:00pm to assist with preparation for fall recruitment and the popcorn sale. This includes: stuffing envelopes, cutting buddy cards, assembling & disassembling packets, moving boxes, etc. If interested, please contact us to learn more!
Scout Executive Minute

The annual popcorn sale provides an excellent opportunity for scouts just like Lucas and units to pay for an entire year of exciting adventures. It also gives youth the chance to build confidence as they go door to door and share their scouting story with friends and neighbors.

In addition to the funds earned by scouts and units, the popcorn sale provides funding to the Buckeye Council to improve and maintain our camp facilities, equip units with innovative tools to recruit youth during the Join Scout Night campaign, and create exciting activities like Family Adventure Camp. Thank you for your support of Scouting through participating in this important part of the program.
