Ben Carman's journey in Scouting led him on many great adventures that culminated in the achievement of the Eagle Award. But the adventure didn't end there. Ben's academic performance, leadership in Scouting in Troop and Crew 177 in Alliance, OH, and involvement in other activities enabled him to be selected as a recipient of a Cooke Academic Scholarship from the National Eagle Scout Association. Only 4 of these scholarships are presented nationwide and will provide $25,000 to Ben's pursuit of a Mathematics and Computer Science degree from Ohio University.
"Being in Boy Scouts has left a long lasting impact on the man I am today. Not only did I learn basic skills and enjoy amazing outdoor adventures, but I learned the importance of skills like servant leadership. I have grown into an outgoing leader in many aspects of life and Boy Scouts has helped me to gain the skills to lead while being a role model and motivator throughout. Similarly, Scouts has exposed me to countless relationships, mentorships, fields of study, hobbies, and places to relax and explore. Even when I thought Scouts could give me no more, being an Eagle Scout opened the door for me to earn a $25,000 scholarship from the National Eagle Scout Association. Needless to say, this experience has really helped to shape my young life and I have countless reasons to give back to Scouts and my community in the future," says Ben about his experience in Scouting.
