The Sayers Family Celebrates Scouting Together
For the Sayers family, reasons to Celebrate Scouting are in abundance. With four boys going through Pack and Troop 6035 in Iberia, OH, Scouting activities quickly fill up the calendar. Proud Scout dad and active volunteer, Nathan Sayers, has been involved all along the way. "I didn't even know Scouting was a program anymore until my oldest son brought the Cub Scout signup flyer home," says Nathan on how he first got involved. The rest is history.

Along the way, Nathan has served in nearly all leadership positions at the unit level and today is the District Chairman for the Harding Area District. Three of the four boys have achieved the Eagle rank so far, with the youngest heading down the trail. Scouting has developed not only the Sayers brothers, but their dad Nathan as well. "When I had the chance to go through Woodbadge, I felt inspired to be a better leader. It has helped me in every aspect of my life. I never went through a training like that, and would not have had the chance if not for Scouting," says Nathan.

We all have reasons to Celebrate Scouting - read more below on how you can be a part of the celebration this month.

For each $50 you invest in Scouting, the Buckeye Council will reinvest $5 into your Scout’s camping experience in 2019. $50 gets you $5, $100 gets you $10, etc.

A Scout is Reverent
The Boy Scouts of America designates a Saturday and Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as  Scout Sunday  and  Scout Sabbath  to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. Scout Sunday / Scout Sabbath is an opportunity for units to participate in the religious service of their chartering organization by attending services in uniform, conducting a flag ceremony, speaking about Scouting, and/or formally thanking them for their support throughout the year.

Scouts and leaders can also exercise their Duty to God by earning awards specifically tied to their faith. Religious emblems programs are approved by the BSA and administered by various religious groups. These programs are a great way to build on Scout Sunday / Scout Sabbath with your unit or scout.
