Make Memories Like Maddie - Come to Camp!
Camp. A simple word that captures the essence of the summertime Scouting experience. It's both a verb and a noun. An act and a place. A hope and a memory. Something we look forward to and something we cherish. It's where the pictures in the handbook come to life.

Camping is the reason people like Maddie H. decided to join Scouting. Maddie is a second year Webelos in Pack 4 in Canton, and in April she will earn the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts. At that time she will cross over to newly formed Troop 111 in North Canton. Maddie comes from a Scouting family with her dad, uncle, and grandfather all being 5th year pipestone holders. The legacy continues for Maddie's family as she attends summer camp at Seven Ranges this summer just as the two generations before her.

Maddie's favorite parts of Scouting so far have been launching rockets, working towards the Arrow of Light requirements, and participating in Troop 111's meetings. Her parents have enjoyed watching Maddie expand her independence through Scouting.
Save on Camp by Investing in Scouting - Every $50, Gets You $5!
This year we launched a new initiative called Celebrate Scouting as a replacement to our Family Friends of Scouting Campaign. Celebrate Scouting puts an emphasis on February and March as a time to recognize each of our local scouting units for their achievements.
Additionally, several free, family, fun events have taken place or are upcoming at venues like Skymax, Altitude, The Wilderness Center, and Center Ice as a chance for Scouting families to connect and celebrate together! We sincerely hope you were able to join us in the Celebration at a unit or community event.

Celebrate Scouting, like Family Friends of Scouting before, is about more than inviting families to connect. It is also an invitation to invest. We teach young people skills and habits that last a lifetime. Investing in the Boy Scouts of America creates opportunities for youth to gain memorable experiences and learn principles that will help them develop into tomorrow’s leaders. By contributing to Scouting, you have a profound impact on your community’s future.

For each $50 you invest in Scouting, the Buckeye Council will reinvest $5 into your Scout’s camping experience in 2019 in the form of a camp discount. $50 gets you $5, $100 gets you $10, etc. After making your donation, you will receive a discount code to redeem when you register for camp.

More than 1,500 Scouts and Families have Joined the Celebration - March is Your Last Chance!
Celebrate Scouting draws to a close this month with the final free, family, fun events taking place. So far, more than 1,500 Scouts and families have joined the celebration! Celebrate Scouting is a focus on bringing our Scouting family together by highlighting successes from 2018. Celebrations will take place with every unit, at free family fun events, with Scouting leaders, and with community organizations who support Scouting. Throughout the Celebration all parents, leaders, and members of the community are invited to connect and invited to invest. Celebrate by attending any or all of our free family fun events located throughout our council.

Scout Executive Minute
Maddie's story is a familiar one in Scouting. A story of generations of family sharing the unique bond created through experiences wearing the uniform. Hundreds of thousands of families have shared stories of adventures old and new around the campfire at places like Seven Ranges or Camp Akela. The story has a new twist now that scouting allows for girls like Maddie to experience the excitement offered in Cub Scouts and Scouts, BSA.

I hope your summer adventures also include a trip to camp! The Scouting program truly comes to life in the outdoors where youth and adults forge life-long memories. Take advantage of the savings available to you when you make an investment in the program during Celebrate Scouting.
