COUNTY OF BUCKS | DEPARTMENT OF WORKFORCE & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT | SEPT 2022 ISSUE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Photo of Executive Director Billie Barnes
The Department of Workforce & Economic Development (WED) is excited to begin the month with good news and recognition. In 2017, Congress designated September as National Workforce Development Month to celebrate investments in the U.S. workforce that lead to increased economic opportunities. Workforce development impacts everyone, from the businesses that drive the economy to the employees and other citizens who live, work, and contribute to the strength and growth of our community. WED is proud to collaborate with all levels of the workforce network to meet employers’ needs for skilled workers and workers’ career and economic advancement.

On behalf of WED and the Bucks County Workforce Development Board, I hope you will join us on September 28 to celebrate the Grand Opening of PA CareerLink® Bucks County in Trevose. Now located at 4800 East Street Road, the one-stop career center is staffed with dedicated workforce professionals who connect job seekers with training and education opportunities, apprenticeships, paid work experiences, career counseling, job placement assistance, and help to navigate career pathways leading to family-sustaining wages. The Business Services Team works directly with businesses that want to recruit new hires through postings and events and upskill and retain current employees. The Grand Opening celebration will showcase their efforts and the impact of workforce programs and services on the community. Festivities will kick off with ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., immediately followed by a multi-industry job fair, guided tours, and refreshments. I encourage you to register and look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you for acknowledging National Workforce Development Month and supporting WED’s investment in Bucks County programs that build a more inclusive workforce and create economic mobility for more people.

Sincerely,
Billie F. Barnes

Career Seeker Success Story: Korey

Korey is an outstanding representation of a success story within the PA CareerLink® WIOA Program. After being dislocated from a warranty company for cell phones, he demonstrated interest in obtaining a credential through the Individual Training Account (ITA) opportunity available to WIOA participants.

Working with his counselor, Korey completed research into the various options and training providers relevant to Information Technology.
