Town Hall on proposed budget

The proposed City budget for the next fiscal year will be the focus of a citywide town hall Tuesday, August 29 at The Branch Connection. You are invited!

Our Mayor and City Council will host the event, designed to break down the proposed $186-million budget into its basic components, so that citizens can easily understand revenue sources and major city expenses.

The proposed 2023-24 Farmers Branch budget includes the largest single property tax reduction in 40 years as well as increased funding for public safety.

"It's a balanced, multi-faceted budget that responds to the needs and requests of City Council and our residents," says City Manager Ben Williamson, "while also planning for the future."

The City Council and City staff will be on-hand to answer questions at The Branch Connection on Tuesday

from 6 to 8 p.m. 14055 Dennis Lane.

The proposed budget is not final and is meant to be a living document until it is formally adopted.

The entire proposed 2023-24 City budget can be reviewed HEREA graphic display of the key elements of the budget is available HERE.

Severe heat forces cancellation of Barks & Brews

With a forecast high of 110° tomorrow, the Parks and Recreation Department has decided to cancel the Barks & Brews event at the Barney Wood Bark Park.

Event Center going up at Historical Park

The foundation has been poured and now the framing is underway for the new event center at our Historical Park.

When finished, the facility will be an 8,100 square foot structure for weddings, receptions, parties, educational programs, temporary exhibits, and special City events. It will seat up to 200 guests in a reception-style configuration. When the project is complete, the City will plant 30 trees in the Historical Park, to enhance the overall view and replace approximately eight trees which were removed before construction began.

Rawhide Creek bridge temporarily removed

Parks & Recreation crews have temporarily removed the Rawhide Creek pedestrian bridge at Tom Field Road and Oran Good parking lot.

The bridge has been taken down for needed repairs and refurbishing.

Skating Under the Stars cancelled this year

The Children’s Health Star Center located in Farmers Branch, and the City of Farmers Branch, regretfully announce that the outdoor ice rink will not open for the 2023 season.

The outdoor ice rink, launched in 2018 and operated in partnership between the City of Farmers Branch and the Children’s Health Star Center, will be impacted by the upcoming road construction project on adjacent Denton Drive and the surrounding area.

Construction is anticipated to start in fall of 2023. Indoor ice skating will continue to be offered to the public at the Children’s Health Star Center, and more information can be found HERE.

Even trees need TLC in the heat

It's not just people and pets.

Trees need help contending with the hot temperatures and drought conditions, too. So it's important to provide care for the trees in your yard.

Did you know that newly-planted trees need around two to three gallons of water per inch of trunk diameter, up to three times per week?

Even mature or established trees may require supplemental watering. Be sure to water in the morning or evening to reduce water loss to evaporation.

Cut cost with green energy

See if the Farmers Branch Power Switch can help you save on your electricity bill.

If your current electricity contract expires by September 26, register for the Power Switch to receive an offer for a new, 100% renewable electricity rate.

The Power Switch is a group energy buying program that allows residents to benefit from lower electricity rates through bulk purchasing. The more people that register, the better the opportunity for lower electricity rates.

There’s no cost to participate and no penalty should you choose not to accept the electricity rate offer. Click HERE to learn more and register for the program.

Get paid to replace a toilet

The City is offering a water utility rebate of up to $150 for eligible homeowners who replace their toilets with water efficient models.

Visit FarmersBranchTX.gov to view eligibility requirements and apply for the rebate.

Reminder: bulk trash pickup on Labor Day

Don't forget: the first full week of September includes the Labor Day holiday, and City contractors will be out collecting your bulk trash on Monday, September 4.

Bulk items should be set out no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before and no later than 7 a.m. for collection by the Green Grabber Collection. Read more HERE.
