Share Feedback on 2024 Budget Draft | The Mission Council will hold three listening sessions on the proposed 2024 budget being presented at the 115th presbytery meeting on October 21. Commissioners are invited to attend these sessions to ask questions and comment on the budget proposal. The budget includes projections for the next several years of use of the Church and Ministries Development (CMD) Fund, one of the designated funds of the Presbytery.
Learn About Abolition from Biblical Teachings
Modern-day abolition is a movement towards dismantling institutions and systems like prisons, jails, detention centers, etc. that do not lead to community thriving. It is also a movement to build a society without prisons, proposing different means to support collective thriving and more effective ways to address harms. Voices of Jubilee, a new worshipping community that serves incarcerated youth in Virginia, invites you to learn about abolition from Biblical teachings. Join Presbyterians for Abolition, a working group of Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, and guest Dr. Chris Burton for the Bible and Abolition, a webinar on Thursday, October 12, at 8 p.m. via Zoom.
Don't Miss the Women's Retreat Deadline | Registration closes soon for the Women's Retreat at Camp Hanover. Rev. Gillian Weighton (St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Suffolk) leads this event on October 20 and 21. Explore in your daily life the radical, transforming love of God and how it can change our world for the better.
Bible Study Connects Presbyterian Beliefs and Practices to Scripture | Why Presbyterians are Like That is a series of Bible Studies intended to help participants think about why Presbyterians are the way we are. This resource was created in 2022 by the Office of Christian Formation in the Presbyterian Mission Agency of the PC(USA) in partnership with UKirk Collegiate Ministries. There are two versions, one for congregations and another for college students. This year, a supplement, Every Living Creature, was added to help Presbyterians think and talk about how we can live out our Christian faith in a diverse world. Download the full document or individual pieces to use with your group.
