Max Shaw Pursues Passion in Dentistry

Max Shaw, 2019 B.S. Biochemistry and Biology Alumni, is currently attending University of Texas Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. He is in pursuit to become a dentist and says, "I chose dentistry because of the special relationships we are able to build with our patients, the love for science, and the chance to use my hands on a daily basis to help change people’s smiles. The profession of a dentist is very unique in the aspect that we get to build long term relationships with our patients through regular exams. This also allows us to act as the first line in complete preventative care by allowing us to notice health changes and issues a patient may be experiencing and are unaware of; therefore, allowing us to refer patients to primary care physicians for further evaluation."

Dr. John Pipkin Judges AQHA Youth World Championship Show

Dr. John Pipkin judged the 2020 Built Ford Tough American Quarter Horse Association Youth World Championship Show in Oklahoma City, OK.

"This is the pinnacle event for youth competitors around the world. In most years, youth exhibitors must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the classes, representing English, Western, and Halter disciplines. The other road to qualifying is for competitors to participate and compete through their state or provincial affiliate. In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of spring shows, qualifying requirements were waived."

About the show

Sharp's Internship Prepares Her For Life After College

Lindsey Sharp, a 2019 B.S Agricultural Media and Communication graduate, talks about how her internship with Cowboy Junction Church prepared her for life after graduation.

Where did you complete your internship?

I interned with Cowboy Junction Church in Hobbs, New Mexico.

How did your internship help prepare you post-graduation?

Building relationships, planning events, practicing my public speaking skills, and being forced out of my comfort zone during my internship; helped me with my current position: A recruiter for South Plains College.

Describe briefly what you did for your internship.

I was assigned to assist the media team in shooting and editing videos, updating the website, and posting on the social media platforms. I was part of planning and hosting two major events: The Create Women's Conference and Camp Crossfire. My favorite experience was getting the opportunity to create an app for the Women's Conference. The app contained any and all the information that the women attending the conference would need: speaker's information, schedule, maps, and more! It was my project from the beginning to the day that it launched.
