I am super excited to be a part of the Custer Area Chamber team right here in my own hometown. I attended school here and have lived the majority of my life in the beautiful Black Hills. I most enjoy spending time with family and friends in the outdoors. I enjoy camping, days at the lake, photography, loving on all my pets, riding side by sides, bike riding, crafts and watching the Packers play. I love our small, friendly community and look forward to taking part in all of the events and serving all of our wonderful members!

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just announced that, in 2023, it will nearly double the number of H-2B visas normally issued in a year. Nearly 65,000 ADDITIONAL H-2B visas will be made available next year. Because many of you reply upon this program for seasonal help, we wanted to get this information to you right away. United Way Added $66,687 of Value to the Black Hills in September
 
Rapid City, S.D. — Throughout the month of September, the United Way of the Black Hills has been coordinating dozens of teams of volunteers to tackle projects big and small across local communities.
 
           This mass coordination of 742 volunteers, the Month of Caring, is an annual event. During the Month of Caring, volunteers tackle projects that benefit the elderly, individuals with disabilities and nonprofit organizations. 

           
           “We couldn’t accomplish this kind of impact without the support of our 39 corporate sponsors,” said Jamie Toennies, Executive Director of United Way of the Black Hills. “The individuals and businesses of the Black Hills are incredibly generous. And our signature sponsors, Black Hills Energy; Synchrony; KNBN; Monument Health and Coeur Wharf, are really taking big steps to make an impact in our community.” 
 
           The Month of Caring happens every September. This year, the Month of Caring generated $66,687 in community value. 742 volunteers, divided into 51 teams, took on 86 projects. These projects took place all over the Black Hills from Edgemont to Belle Fourche.
 
           “I couldn’t be prouder of our communities,” said Toennies. “The Black Hills are full of generous people who know that they can make a lasting impact by partnering with the United Way. Thank you, Black Hills.”

SD Minimum Wage Increases
Effective January 1, 2023, South Dakota's minimum wage for non-tipped employees will be $10.80 per hour, up from $9.95 per hour in calendar year 2022. For tipped employees, the hourly minimum wage for calendar year 2023 will be no less than $5.40 per hour, up from $4.975 in 2022. The change has been posted on the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation website.

As a result of an initiated measure approved by South Dakota voters in 2014, the state's minimum wage is adjusted annually by any increase in the cost of living and is rounded up to the nearest five cents. With limited exceptions, South Dakota's minimum wage applies regardless of the age of the employee, the numbers of hours worked each week, or length of employment.

Black Hills Program Coordinator (Full-time, Rapid City)
 
The Helpline Center is hiring a Black Hills Program Coordinator.
 
The Black Hills Program Coordinator is responsible for the programming and operations of the Volunteer Connections program other related programs in the Black Hills.
 
This individual will serve as a clearinghouse for volunteer referrals, provide consultation and support to community agency volunteer managers, and serve as a community resource/advocate for volunteer issues. They will assist with fund development and public relations to sustain Helpline Center programs in the Black Hills. As well as provide support to 988, 211 and Suicide Prevention programs.
 
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree. Experience with social service agencies/community services/volunteer organizations desired.
