CONNECTIONS
Linking you to the work of creating a more civil and caring community in WNY
Powered by the Buffalo Jewish Federation
Co-Chairs: Nina Lukin & Dr. Ted Steinberg | Director: Mara Koven-Gelman
Buffalo JCRC is currently prioritizing its activities. Our work falls into three broad areas: Social Justice, Combatting Hate and Discrimination, and Building Relationships with Ethnic, Faith, and Cultural Communities.
EDUCATE - Upcoming Events
It is not even Purim yet, but are you thinking of hosting a Seder this year? If you value meeting new people from other faiths and communities, here's a great opportunity to share the beauty and meaning of your Passover Seder.

We're looking for Jewish community households to invite 2-4 people to their Seder on Friday, April 19 or Saturday, April 20. Invite your own friends, or contact us to connect you.

ADVOCATE - Updates
Voting Rights Passes
Six major parts of a NYS bill were signed into law. New Yorkers will see the following 4 pieces soon: early voting, a single election for congressional and state primaries, automatic registration for 16 & 17 yr olds, and portable voter registration.

Criminal Justice Reform in Erie County
One of the key priority areas we're working on is Criminal Justice Reform. Some have called it the new "Civil Rights" Issue. There are many areas to review and we've voted to support legislation introduced by Erie County Majority Leader April Baskin to seek Erie County Corrections Professional Advisory Board.

MOBILIZE - Get Involved
Write a letter to your Erie County legislator in support of local law No. 8-1-2018 entitled Erie County Corrections Specialist Advisory Board.

Write your State Legislator (or Majority Leader Crystal People-Stokes) to ensure enough funding for early voting. Use this easy site to find your local, state or federal representatives.

Update from Jewish Council for Public Affairs
Israel's Upcoming Elections
Israel will be holding Knesset elections on April 9. We're proud that Israel is an open, democratic nation, but have considerable concern of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's partnering with Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power). They are the ideological successor of the Kach party, which was founded by Meir Kahane, who espoused racist, extremist and violent views. Kach was designated a terrorist organization under Israeli, American and European law. Statements from party leaders and the party platform make it clear that Otzma Yehudit continues to hold these reprehensible views.
