BUFORD, Ga., -On Tuesday, March 9, Superintendent Dr. Robert Downs announced that Mrs. Melanie Reed would assume the role of Deputy Superintendent for the Buford City School District.
In an email sent to staff and parents, Dr. Downs stated, "Mrs. Reed has been with the district for 27 years establishing relationships throughout her entire tenure. She will now focus on leading operations at the Central Office."
Reed will assume the duties of Deputy Superintendent immediately, and she is eager to continue leading the district, “I am excited to continue empowering our students to be excellent in the arts, academics, and athletics. The additional updates to our Central Office operations team will ensure BCSS remains laser-focused on supporting the success of our staff and students.”
Additionally, Dr. Amy Chafin has been named Assistant Superintendent for Student Achievement.
Dr. Chafin most recently served as Curriculum and Instruction Director. She has 14 years of experience as a district administrator, and she will continue to guide and direct all of the student services.
Moving into the role of Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction will be Mrs. Sara Lingerfelt. Lingerfelt has served in the school district for the last 18 years as an educator, an Assistant Principal, a PowerSchool Administrator, and a Curriculum Director.
Dr. Lacrecia Smith will now serve as Curriculum & Instruction Director. Dr. Smith has 25 years with the Buford City School District. She formally taught at the elementary school and has experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESOL).
Smith will continue to lead the Diversity and Inclusion office in her new role. To ensure students continue receiving rigorous academic instruction, Smith’s former role will be filled by a Certified Gifted and English as a Second Language supervisor.
