EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMICS

BENCHMARK TWO

Benchmark Two is rapidly approaching: October 24 - 28, 2022. Please help your student create a schedule to study for their Benchmarks so they are confident and prepared. Benchmark Two counts twice as much as Benchmark One (200 points).


MATH TUTORING

Mu Alpha Theta is a math honors society that focuses on peer tutoring. Math Tutoring is held every morning from 7:10-7:30 in the Media Center. No appointment is necessary. Any student is welcome to come get help on math homework, review material, go over old tests, etc. 


THE WRITING CENTER

The Writing Center offers students peer-assistance with writing assignments every morning from 7:10-7:30 in the Media Center. The Writing Center is also available on Wednesday afternoons. Appointments are recommended, but not required. More information is available on their website.

QUESTIONS & CONCERNS?

If you have a question or concern about your student, please follow these procedures: 1. Email your student's teacher. Next, 2. Email your student's counselor. Finally, 3. Email your student's administrator. The first point of contact should always be the teacher.


UPGRADE & MAKE-UP ZONE

Upgrade is our after school academic assistance program that occurs on Wednesday afternoons from 3-4pm. Teachers from all academic areas are available to help students, and a bus is available to take in-district residents home at 4pm.


The Make-Up Zone is an opportunity for students to make up tests and quizzes they have missed from being absent. The Make- Up Zone is open Tuesdays from 3-4pm (Commons Area), and Thursdays from 6:40-7:30am (front door of Academic Building). Transportation is not available for the Make-Up Zone. 

NATIONAL MERIT

SCHOLARSHIP CORPORATION

This year, Buford High School had 31 students who received national honors for academic achievement from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.


Congratulations to these students who have worked tirelessly to achieve Excellence in Academics.

DECA REGION 6

OFFICER INSTALLATION

On September 20, Buford High School DECA hosted the DECA Region 6 Officer Installation Ceremony. Over 100 students, advisors, and parents traveled from across the DECA Region to participate in the event. The evening included a welcome from BCS Deputy Superintendent, Amy Chafin, a motivational speaker, networking, and officer installation. Great job, DECA officers and Mrs. Davenport, Mrs. Greer, and Mrs. Simmons!

THE FUTURE OF

COMPUTER SCIENCE

Autumn Sutton, along with the STEM Instructional Designer, Peter Graff of Forsyth County Schools, facilitated a breakout session (Improving Computer Science/STEM Instruction through Gaming) at this year's 2022 Fall Curriculum Leaders Conference in Athens, GA on September 21.


Both presenters introduced the fundamentals of gamification and the benefits of utilizing games for learning computer science.


BCS is very proud of Mrs. Sutton as she continues to prepare our students for future success in the field of computer science.

The Lady Wolves beat North Gwinnett in the championship match in 2 sets! 25-13 & 25-22.

The Tradition Continues...

• Friday, October 14, 2022, is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 11:00am.


• The Homecoming Parade starts at 3:00pm.


The parade route will begin at the Buford Arena, and travel down Sawnee Avenue to Main Street.

• The football game begins at 7:30pm at Tom Riden Stadium.


• The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at half time.

Approval Form for Outside Guests

The Homecoming Dance, "New York Nights," will be on October 15th from 7:00pm - 10:00pm in the Buford High School courtyard. The evening promises a DJ & an open-air dance floor along with outdoor tenting and games.  


Prepackaged refreshments will be provided for attendees with the option to mingle and celebrate in the commons area.  


Tickets for the evening will be available for advance purchase at $20 a person on GoFan; tickets purchased at the door and on the day of the dance will be $25.


Students will be permitted to bring one guest from another school system only with a completed and approved guest form. The guest forms must be submitted to Laura MacAdam or Jeff Gillis BY October 13th at 3:00pm. No exceptions will be made after that date.

SCHOLASTIC IMAGES


Scholastic Images will be in the cafeteria on Wednesday, October 5 during all lunches. Students can place orders for letter jackets, class rings, and pay Senior Dues. For more info, visit www.scholasticimages.com

SENIOR LOCKER TEMPLATES


Any Senior parent may purchase a locker template from the front office for $3.00. If your student doesn't have a locker, but would like to have one to display their template, lockers can be purchased for $20.00 on MyPaymentsPlus.com

SENIOR RECOGNITION ADS


Senior recognition ads are an optional way for senior parents to recognize their graduating senior in the yearbook. Senior recognition ads are discounted through October 5th, and the final full-price deadline is November 10th. Visit bufordyearbook.com to purchase.

PICTURE RETAKES


Picture retake day for ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students is Tuesday, October 18 during all lunches in the Lecture Hall. Parents of students who took a photo on the September picture day will receive an email from Lily McGregor Photography with a link to their student's portrait gallery by October 14. Students who missed picture day or would like a retake should visit the Lecture Hall during their lunch period. There is a $5 fee for retakes, and a first photo is free.

Yearbooks can be purchased for $95 through January 27th. The price will increase on January 28th. Visit bufordyearbook.com to purchase.
