Speak Up Be Safe
Effective July 1, 2018, Georgia Senate Bill 401 requires annual age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education in kindergarten through grades 9 (O.C.G.A. § 20-2- 143). The Buford City School System will be utilizing Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe as a resource to comply with this state requirement. Counselors will provide information from Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe during spring semester to teach the skills needed to identify unsafe situations and prevent or interrupt cycles of neglect, bullying, and abuse.
Visit www.speakupbesafe.org for more information about this resource. You may also contact your child’s school counselor with any questions or concerns. The program is voluntary, which means that you do not have to allow your child to participate.
