SHSAT Deadline is October 10th
The deadline for 8th graders to sign up for this year's SHSAT is October 10th...click here for more information.  The Specialized High School Admissions Test will be Oct 26 and 27 for 8th graders seeking admission to one of the eight schools based solely on this exam.
This test has been the subject of debate in an effort to diversify these schools.  Ideas include creating more SHSAT based schools, improving middle schools, asking every 8th grader to take the SHSAT as well as changing the admission policy to be more than one data point.
The Obstacle is the Way

Inscribed on the back of this medallion is "The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." from Marcus Aurelius' Meditations.  Ryan Holiday, author of The Obstacle is the Way, has made philosophy and Stoicism his messages through his writing and presentations as well as through his store where he offers Medallions, Pendants, Rings, Prints and Courses.   These products allow for insight at any time as "you can carry this powerful truth with you wherever you go. "
"As the Haitian proverb puts it: Behind mountains are more mountains.
Our hope is that when you encounter these obstacles you'll feel the weight of the coin in your pocket and remember that each obstacle offers a chance to thrive not just in spite of whatever is in front of you, but because of it."
