During COVID, and for some time afterwards, many colleges were not requiring students to submit SAT or ACT scores. At University of California at San Diego (an R1 research university), this policy exacerbated the learning losses from the pandemic. 
There is now much more need for remedial Math than even five years ago and the school which has a strong STEM program has become newsworthy as it grapples with the wide range of students' skills and backgrounds.

Caltech has implemented the Viva tool as part of the admissions process. Viva allows a college applicant to upload a research paper and then answer a series of questions while on video based on that paper.
The co-founders of initialview have two young adult sons and were inspired to build this product to showcase student knowledge and skills after the disparate experiences of their two sons based on the launch of AI.
