Read Aloud Week Begins on October 26 *

Next week marks the 20th anniversary of Read Aloud Week! This year the theme is “Celebration.” Here are some things your program, children, and families can do to join the fun and create some new literacy skill-building habits and routines:

Plan a Reading Aloud

- Choose books with topics that interest the children or invite the children to choose the book you will read.

- Encourage children to look at the cover page and flip through the book before reading. Think aloud and say, “I wonder what this book will be about? What do you think?”

- Have a conversation about what’s happening as the story unfolds and after you finish reading.

Celebrate First Chapter Fridays

- Introduce new books to your children by reading the first chapter or the first few pages of a new book each Friday with the goal of getting them hooked on books and wanting to read over the weekend.

For additional ideas, please reach out to Project RISE at projectrise@nova.edu and their coaches will be more than happy to support you.

Looking Back, Looking Forward: Our Collective Impact

As The Children’s Trust approaches its 25th anniversary next year, we have been reflecting on the collective impact achieved alongside our providers, partners, and community over nearly a quarter century. Every day, The Children’s Trust transforms local property tax dollars into lasting impact through Trust-funded programs that help children learn, grow, stay healthy, and build brighter futures. While much of this work happens quietly in neighborhoods, schools, child care centers, health clinics, and community organizations, its impact is felt throughout Miami-Dade County.

As conversations about the future of local funding continue ahead of the November 3 election and the vote on Amendment 3, we have received multiple questions from providers and other community stakeholders about how the measure could affect The Trust's property tax revenue, investments, and services. As The Children’s Trust remains committed to providing clear, factual information about our work and the public investments that make it possible, we have developed a two-page overview about our work, the community outcomes made possible through our shared investments, and the amendment's estimated financial implications. We invite you to explore this resource to better understand how investments made possible by local property tax dollars support and leave a lasting impact on children and families throughout Miami-Dade County.

When we invest in our community, everyone wins.
