This weekend is the 13th Annual Gathering of Glen-L boatbuilders in Tennessee! There's still time to attend if you're nearby and want to stop by. Saturday is the day to drop in and see all of the beautiful boats and meet the even more beautiful people who have built them. See the details below.

We receive so many photos from folks who are building or have built our boats that we have a hard time keeping up! I've been considering sending out separate additional emails with just recent Galleries in them. Thank you for sending them and also for your patience!

Enjoy this month's Newsletter!
Customer Feedback...
This is feedback from our April Newsletter--yes, running behind on these too!:

"Miss Gayle, Happy Resurrection Sunday to you.I can't tell you how happy I am that you had the courage and the love of Jesus to put that in your post. He gave me a do over. I just celebrated 23 years of no drugs, no alcohol and no chasing crazy women all up and down the east coast. Thank you Jesus. From fellow Jesus and Boat lover thank you. Mr Bill. Again Happy Resurrection Sunday."

Dear Gayle,

While I have yet to build a boat (or even own a boat), wooden boats of the Chris Craft variety are usually the favorites. I appreciate Glen L's blogs and information and one day hope to have the space to put a Glen L design together.

Also, I'd like to wish you and your family a very happy Easter and much continued success in this wonderful family business. Thank you for your Christian witness (and obvious joy!) and the way you present the hope that you and impart!

God's richest blessings in Christ,
Ralph Hough
Pastor

Comment from the Glen-L Forum:

"I finally finished my little boat, the TNT, and took it to Lake Elsinore (California) on Saturday. It truly amazed me and ran/rode flawlessly. It has a little 587 Seadoo in it. I did not think that small engine would do it justice, but it made it to 42 mph by the end of the day. YAAY! It's like a race kart on water."

"Thank you Glen-L for putting out such a bitchen product. It rode nice 'n flat with no porpoise. I had a crowd whenever I came in. Wade the trailer park owner brought out his 1200 hp flattie for some runs and by the end of day, he conceded to me that my little TNT took the show. I have had v drives and they are fun and sometimes challenging to rig, but I have never felt the same feeling of accomplishment and pride (I know it's a sin) as I have building this 'lil rocket. Thanks again and God bless." - Mattsully
Builder Tips
Tip #1 - I had the crazy idea that epoxy runs would be easily cleaned up "down the road". Now months and to be true years later, they are as hard as steel, not easily reachable with any sanding device and will likely remain as a permanent reminder of my earlier carelessness. New and current builders : CLEAN UP AS YOU GO!
Best wishes Graham

Tip #2 - I wish I had encapsulated the frames of the Tahoe as I went. Doing this after the flip is a real PITA, not to mention the knees and back. Probably some bloodshed, too. - Bill Edmundson
Dan has updated his blog on building the Goliath which is a steel tug boat that can also be built in wood or aluminum.

Dan is a fascinating man who is busy working on his farm, raising/breeding dogs, building a house and somehow finds time to build a boat! In fact, multiple boats over the years. And, he's making so many custom parts for his boat like mufflers in his most recent update. And, even a custom trailer of his own design. Be sure and read his blog here.
This custom kit was developed using  Glen-L Zip  plans by Mark Molden of Benchmark Products in California. His precision CNC cut complete wood kit allows you to begin assembling your boat the minute you unpack it...no tracing, measuring or cutting needed! See our site for details!

"Through my detailed receipts, I spent about $2200 on wood for my Zip 10 years ago and it wasn't CNC cut to fit!!! Great price point, it really makes sense to just buy the kit at this price. " - Chris Atwood

The very first ZipKit purchaser is currently building his Zip utilizing the kit and posting photos and details about the build on our Forum here. He estimates that he's saving about 30% - 40% of building time by using the kit!

( yes, another blog post on a Goliath! This one's aluminum. )
Being New to the Glen-L Family I guess I should start with how I came to this point of life.

Some where in the South Pacific on a Navy ship around 1965 I found a Glen-L Ad for plans in a magazine. I wanted to build just the right boat to fit me and my life. But I knew that was just a dream. There was no way I could build a boat and the Navy ship it for me from station to station. But some day! ( continue reading )

Your Link Of The Week
Ray Macke is one of our more famous boatbuilders. Ray built the Cabin Skiff and the True Grit, and has a website with detailed building info on both of them which I've linked. I recently came across an article that Ray did on using MDO for building his True Grit. This is a material we don't normally recommend, but Ray has used it some and has some very good comments about the pro's and con's. You can read about it here.

Until next time, build more boats...Glen-L boats that is!

PULL UP FENDER CLEATS

This unique style of the single post retractable fender cleat is investment cast of 316 stainless steel. This unit is designed with a detent area so that the cleat stays up or down as desired, and does not rattle. The cleat swivels from the base at one discrete point for easy power-tool installation with two screws through the base. These fasteners are "hidden" and the cleat is flush to the base when in retracted position. See details
PLYWOOD BOATBUILDER

GLEN-L POXY GRIP ADHESIVE

This superior waterproof marine glue is formulated specifically for the boatbuilder, whether amateur or professional. POXY-GRIP is easy to use, requiring equal parts of resin and hardener (1:1 ratio). Use on all types of wood, most metals, and some plastics.

POXY-GRIP cures below 40° F (although more slowly), and is suitable for high humidity or on woods with relatively high moisture content since it does not absorb moisture during cure. The resin component is nearly water clear, while the polyamide hardener is amber color. Cured joints are clear, becoming virtually invisible. Ideal for use under clear finishes. Learn more
EXPOSED DRUM STEERING KIT

Racing-type exposed drum steering ideal for smaller boats such as our TINY TITAN, SUPER SPARTAN, XP-8, PEE WEE, TUNNEL MITE, MINIMAXED, CLASS RUNABOUTS, and similar boats.  See our site for details & installation instructions.
