Informational presentation by Nevada State Contractoars Board
|
NEVADA STATE CONTRACTORS BOARD
SNHBA, its industry partner, the Nevada Subcontractors Association and the Nevada State Contractors Board recently partnered to present information about the Contractors Board to homebuilders and trade contractors.
The presentation was conducted on July 24 at the Clark County Development Services office.
Topics included Contractors Board resources, compliance tips and license verification. SNHBA thanks NSCB Executive Officer Margi Grein and her team for offering this informative presentation.
STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
The National Association of Home Builders announced that the EPA has withdrawn long-awaited federal regulations to require all developers to install "post-construction" stormwater management devices.
EPA's existing rules simply require regulated cities to address post-construction flows to the "maximum extent practicable."
Since then, the shelved rule has sat on the agency's "long-term action" list - not a priority, but still able to be revisited at a future date.
Today, EPA, along with all other federal agencies, published an updated rulemaking agenda for 2017. This time, the agency announced that EPA's post-construction rule has been
withdrawn. SNHBA has worked on the stormwater issue for several years, and provided significant input to NAHB, which lobbied against the proposed post-construction measures.

INDUSTRY NEWS
A report from the Nevada Association of REALTORS
found that foreclosures by local homeowner associations have reduced property values in the state's two most populated counties by more than $1 billion. That was just one of the findings in a report released in July by the Realtors' group about
issues surrounding foreclosures by homeowner associations and so-called super priority lien laws that allow HOAs to foreclose on homes in a way that places a higher priority on repaying late HOA fees than repaying the mortgage when these homes are sold following a foreclosure. Click here to read the report.
The United Conference of Mayors presented the
city of Las Vegas with two awards for the city's work to fight childhood obesity and serving as a showcase for livability best practices.

The
State of Nevada Commission for Common-Interest Communities and Condominium Hotels in July found former community association manager Leslie White violated 15 state laws and regulations hundreds of times and defrauded 34 Las Vegas homeowners associations of approximately $1,642,451 over a three-year period by making unauthorized withdrawals from association accounts.
The Commission assessed administrative fines and fees totaling $1,104,894 and ordered payment of $1,642,451 in restitution to the 34 homeowners associations.

Joseph "JD" Decker, administrator for the
State of Nevada's Division of Industrial Relations announced today that the
Safety Consultation and Training Section has taken over the responsibility of overseeing Nevada's Voluntary Protection Programs. Previously, administered under Nevada's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Enforcement section, this move consolidates all OSHA employer recognition programs in Nevada under SCATS and helps more Nevada employers gain access to the nationally-recognized Voluntary Protection Program.
